Vehicle Detail
2003 Mercury Mountaineer Premier Edition. Kelley Blue Book value with current mileage (248K) is over $5000 in fair condition, though I would really rate it as better than fair. You can tell by looking at it that this car has been well taken care of. It has had routine maintenance and oil changes within every 4000 miles. Front tires are brand new, rear tires pass inspection. The engine was rebuilt at about 190K. Runs and drives great, but torque converter is noisy which is a sign that it may need transmission work in the future. This is part of the reason we are starting the bidding so low (the other part is that we simply need the cash ASAP). I would like to note once more that the car runs and drives great in it's current condition! I have read posts online from Mountaineer and Explorer owners who claimed to have continued driving theirs for many years after this noise began. The bottom line is that even if you opt to replace the transmission (roughly $1500 from what I have seen online) you're still not going to be anywhere near the Blue Book value. Being an older, High-mileage vehicle it does have a few other issues:-6-disc CD changer works when it wants to.-Seat heater switch is broken. Must use the fuse to turn them on or off. We just leave them off.-Tear in driver's seat.-2 patches of rust on passenger's side quarter panel. One was treated and primed in black, other is untouched. This seems to be a common issue with this model as I have seen others with rust in the exact same spot and ONLY in that spot.-Minor oil leak, not sure from where.-Torque converter is noisy, but has never affected the way the car performs. Now for the PROS:-Cosmetically in good condition inside and out.-Fully loaded!-All power options work perfectly unless otherwise noted above.-9/14 inspection.-New front tires.-Rebuilt engine runs beautifully!-Doesn't burn any oil.
