Vehicle Detail
1985 Suzuki GS1150E, this the version without a fairing. Sometimes referred to as GS1150EF I purchased the bike from the original owner in the summer of '86. It had about 3500 miles on it. Since then I'm the only person who has ridden it. I never abused it. The bike is plenty fast for me without trying to wring the last little bit out of it. No speed shifting, rarely took it to redline. I mainly enjoyed the mid range torque. Never wrecked or "laid down". Most of the miles were accumulated commuting. That was easy duty - ten miles each way on roads with 45mph speed limit. The bike was never parked outside in the rain. When I commuted I parked in a parking garage. I did oil changes every 1000 miles, with filter changes every other oil change. Have been using Suzuki brand oil from the dealer. Mechanically, bike is completely stock. Chain and both spockets have been replaced (stock tooth count). But I have made a couple minor cosmetic changes: - Horns were replaced with bigger, louder ones. The chrome trim on these is beginning to rust, but I have the original stock ones. - The original turn signals had long flexible rubber stalks. These eventually rotted away. Even when new they drooped a bit and I never liked the look. The fronts have been replaced with ones from a GS1100. The rears are from a later model suzuki, I forgot exactly what. I saved the old turn signal heads. With new rubber stalks, the bike could be converted back to the original turn signals. -There should be a plastic trim piece with the word SUZUKI at the back of the passenger seat. This piece broke and was removed. That left a rather large and unsightly hole. You could see the toolkit from behind the bike. A piece of sheet metal was fabricated to fill in the hole. -There is a metal rod about 3/8 diameter on the left handlebar. That was a mount for a radar detector. Detector is long gone, but I left the mount and the 12v power cord in place. It might work for a video camera or gps unit. Extra bit and pieces: -original tool kit. Including the security chain -owner's manual -advertising brochure -Haynes workshop manual -Suzuki factory workshop manual -Motorcycle cover (Dow Canvas) Black with silver lower section. -the little water level sensor that goes in the battery (the present battery does not have the extra hole for it, but the last one which was the same brand did). -receipt for the new battery in case you need the warranty(Walmart) The bike a couple minor operational faults: -the battery warning light is always on because the battery water sensor isn't currently installed -the tail light warning light sometimes comes on for no reason. (the tail light works fine) -the front brakes are a little soft. I flushed out the old brake fluid with new, but I must have gotten air in the system. I was just bleeding by hand, a pressure bleeder would probably take care of it. The paint is in very good to excellent condition. New battery fall of 2013. In general, a well kept, nice running bike. But, there are a couple issues which I will leave up to buyer preference on how to address: -The driver's seat or saddle has some holes on the back edge (see pic). When I kept just a dust cover on the bike, a cat like to sleep on the saddle. Unfortunately it climbed up by sinking its claws on the rear edge of the seat. I've see used seats on Ebay from time to time. But the buyer may want to repair the current seat or even change to a custom seat - Some of the black plastic trim is getting a whitish haze to it. I've seen ads for miracle restoration products, but I don't have any experience with such things and it could just make things worse in the long run. Also, I rather potential buyer's see things in their true state. -Fork seals are weeping some. Both side about the same amount. So I think it's just age, not a ding in the fork from a stone or something. There are some rust pits high on the forks, but none it the working area of the tube. Not enough of a leak to prevent riding in the short term. I have a set of seals, but it occurred to me that the buyer may want to change out springs or change fork oil viscosity at the same time. There are a couple videos on youtube. video A and video B If the links don't work, go to youtube and search for "kflt GS1150". The sound quality is poor, the bike sounds much better in person. It is the stock exhaust, so it's rather low and rumbly with lots of bass at idle. You're welcome to come see and hear the bike in person. Sorry, no test rides. I'm located a bit south of Raleigh, NC. Zip code for my street is 27539-9001. reply using ebay message and I'll get in touch with you. I am assuming the buyer will come to pick up the bike in person and can pay at that time. Cash is always okay. Cashier check is okay if I see the bank teller make it out. (Convenient if there is a branch of your bank near me, banks usually have a notary to handle the title) I'm willing to consider other payment/pick up arrangements such as using a motorcycle shipper, or even trailering the bike to you. But if you're not able to come and get the bike in person, contact me before you bid. I'd expect you to pick up the bike within a couple weeks, but if you need longer let me know before you bid. BTW, I did have this motorcycle listed on Ebay last fall. The pictures and video are current (4/13/2014) I do have a reserve on this listing. But I think is realistic and expect the bike to sell. I include a picture of the odometer showing the mileage. I forgot to dust off the instrument panel before taking the picture. The instruments window is clear. That's pine pollen on it (it's come down fierce this week) On Apr-12-14 at 06:41:01 PDT, seller added the following information: Another try at the video links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQNCeNps1QI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RakTTG1bfNk On Apr-12-14 at 07:38:46 PDT, seller added the following information: To check driving distance for pickup, the address of my neighborhood is: Glendale Dr, Apex, NC 27539
