Vehicle Detail
1930 American Austin Coupe made in Butler, PA. The American Austin was inspired by the Austin 7 made in England. The designer of the Austin 7 came to America and helped to design the American Austin hoping to sell the small cars here, but the Americans were not ready for a small car at that time. Prestige came with a larger car and the little cars never caught on real well and the company went into bankruptcy after a couple of years. It was later bought by someone else and was redesigned and called the Austin Bantam and were made for several more years. In 1941 Bantam made the first Jeep for the military, but Ford and Willys ended up with the contract and Austin Bantam eventually closed its doors after making small trailers for a number of years. This American Austin was restored in 1979 and 1980 and was shown for many years. The car is about 10 feet long, 4 feet wide and a little over 4 feet high and has a little 13 horsepower engine of their own make coupled to a 3 speed transmission. The top has been replaced and the interior was all replaced and is in excellent condition. Two years ago, I had the engine bored out .020 and put new pistons, rings and wrist pins in it along with a new head gasket. The bearings were checked at that time also. I still have a little engine noise which a veteran American Austin man told me may be some endplay in the crankshaft. The crankshaft runs on two roller bearings. There is a little dirt in the gas tank that I am gradually getting out with an inline filter. The tires are good, lights work and it starts good. No leaks to speak of. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time because it is for sale locally as well. A $ 500 paypal deposit is due with three days and the balance by Cashiers check or Cash within 7 days.
