Usually I find these cars and fix them myself and make them as nice as possible and put them on eBay as beautiful as they can be. Lately though, I have had requests for cars straight from the barn. Well ask and ye shall receive! This is a full on barn find. Off the road for years and years, tucked away in storage, sat this survivor Mustang. All original, all matching numbers and with great options too. The original owner of this Mustang had passed on and this car just sat. I love to dream of these cars waiting for a new life.. Not all are Boss 302s, some of the best are just the cars us regular folks had. I still think this one is pretty special. It is a 1971 with a 351 Cleveland Engine and a 2 Barrel Carburetor. The engine is factory rated at 250 horse power and 355 ft lbs of torque.. It really moves! It has an automatic transmission and air conditioning and power steering and brakes. The caretakers of the car had started the car every year or so but when I got it, it was stone dead. I had to put in a new battery, drain all of the old varnish out of the tank , and see what I had gotten myself into here.. I usually can tell if an engine is a good bet without starting it and I was right on this one. It started right up and ran perfectly. I didn’t have to adjust the timing or put plugs in it or anything. No smoke no drips no overheating.. Just a smooth running 351.. The transmission was smooth and perfect too as were the brakes and suspension. The bad is really all cosmetic and mostly only on the exterior. The paint is pretty good for the most part. The dent and split on the passenger side will need to be fixed, but the rest will polish out pretty well. The vinyl top is bad, but not rusty underneath. There is a broken tail light lens. The chrome is all in great shape. The interior is all factory and nice. The radio is even still original. The carpet is a bit tired, but the seats and dash are still nice. They were pretty dusty though.. A little ArmorAll would go a long way. So that’s the story.. A good start to an easy restoration or a pretty cool and unique driver as it is. The miles show 11,232 I’m sure it’s over once. I wouldn’t call the car rusty, but there are some spots here and there. The floors and frame are solid. This Mustang has a ton of vintage appeal and will surely be one to hold on to for future appreciation.
