Vehicle Detail
1971 Ford Maverick Grabber. Has original 200 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine and C-4 auto transmission, 8-inch rearend with 2.79:1 gears and open carrier. The 200 in-line 6 starts right up and idles very smooth and quiet no noises, smoke or visible leaks, to run perfect it would need a new accelerator pump installed in the carburetor. The faulty accelerator pump causes a hesitation upon acceleration, this small easy to install part cost about 15 bucks and I may try to fix this before the auction ends if I find time. The c-4 transmission pulls strong and shifts like it should, no slipping or noises. The trans pan is damp from trans fluid seeping through the old cork gasket but leaves no drips on the floor. The 8-inch rear end sounds nice and smooth with no gear noise and has no excessive slack. The brakes will need some work to be reliable like an adjustment and a good cleaning. They do work and will stop the car but pull to the side and are spongy caused from sitting to long and not being used. If I was going to keep the car I would definitely want to replace the master cylinder and brake lines to have reliable brakes. There are no visible brake fluid leaks but the master cylinder looks damp from brake fluid. I have removed the gas tank and have it running from a small gas jug in the trunk, the fuel line comes through a small hole in the trunk floor that had a factory rubber plug in it, no holes drilled for fuel line. The gas tank is very dirty and should be replaced, I have cleaned gas tanks in this condition and lined the inside with red-cote sealer which is available at most auto parts stores for around 20 bucks and drove for years with no problems. All the glass is good with the exception of the windshield which has a film on the outside that I cannot clean off, maybe caused from sitting under a large oak tree for many years. Don't know if the film will clean off but haven't had time to try other methods of cleaning but im thinking CLR cleaner from the dollor store should do the trick. The frame rails are very solid and straight, The trunk is very solid with only surface rust on the inside bottom as seen in pics. I have included pics of the rust in the floors with the worst being the drivers side front where the floorboard meets the factory seam that turns up toward to the firewall. The passengers side front is starting to rust through the seam in the same place but is a lot less than the drivers. The rear floors are just starting to rust through the factory seam on both sides where the toe area is. The floor rust is just in these seams and not over a large area as you can see in the pics. The rest of the rust on the car can easily been seen in the rest of the pics. Under the battery box is rusted from battery acid leaks as you can see which has rusted a small spot in the frame area but not bad enough to hurt it structuraly, could be cleaned off and welded a small patch in and be fine. I have tried to describe this car as accurately as possible for there will be no surprises and the winning bidder will know exactly what they are bidding on. In my opinion this would be an easy restoration compared to other mavericks that I have seen of this year, or with little work you could have a really cool old daily driver and get good gas mileage too! please ask any questions you may have. Thanks and good luck bidding!! $500 deposit due within 24 hrs of auctions end remaining balance due in 7 days of auctions end. I have plenty of room to store the car if time needed till you come pick it up on a trailer..
