Vehicle Detail
2001 Chevy Silverado 3500 Dually NO RESERVE Auction! Buyer needs to pickup vehicle locally, I do not ship. Truck is located about 15 minutes from DFW airport Description: This is a very reliable work truck. I have owned it since Jan, 2012. I bought it to move my Corvettes around. I am doing less with cars now, and am down to 2 Corvettes, and have a 1/2 ton, so I don't need it anymore. I bought it with 189K miles, and it needed some work. What I did in Q1 2012 was: Replace the front end just about completely: New upper and lower control arms (was easier and about the same price as ball joints), steering arm, shocks all 4. I then took it to a transmission shop for a pro rebuild - including master and slave cylinders. I also did the brakes at that time. Last year Q1 I replaced all 6 tires with Dunlops from Tirerack. These are not cheap Walmart tires, and have about 5K miles on them. No worries on tires. I matched the size that the previous owner had on them, which have a slightly higher profile for more clearance, but are still great highway tires. You probably already know, but if you are in the market for a dually - don't think you can save a ton of money by getting a truck with a bunch of mixed, used tires. Plan on a $1500 replacement if you do. As you can see it has under 204K on it now. I don't drive it much, just a few cross country trips with a single car trailer and Corvette in tow. I will run it locally every couple weeks to keep the fluids moving. I change the oil twice a year, and use Mobil 1 5 30 with some Lucas additive. I did it more often last year after a couple long trips. What is wrong with it: There is a crack in the windshield, doesn't stop inspection, and doesn't bother me much. The blower motor or fan makes noise on speed settings 3-5; started a few months ago. Probably just a replacement of the blower motor (comes out the front under hood). The ABS light goes off and on. Its definitely the sensor. It's been like this since I owned it. I tested it on hard braking and ABS always works, so I didn't worry about it, and it doesn't effect inspection. The driver's seat has a 3" or so tear along the outside seam - previous owner sewed it, its held up. The parking brake is weak. It works, but don't rely on it on a hill. Probably just needs an adjustment. It was replaced with the rear brakes in 2012, and has been that way since. I just put in in R when loading/unloading. One of the roof lights went out recently, probably a bulb. The washer fluid bottle is good, but there is a crack/leak around the pump so windshield washer fluid leaks. Last thing I can think of is the slow cranking/start. Always been like that. I thought it was the battery when I bought it, so put a gold higher CCA battery in. No change. So I replaced the starter. Made it crank fast, and blew out the starter in a month, so I put the old starter back in. Then I replaced the fuel regulator, thinking its draining out or something. No change. So I shrugged my shoulders and left it - since it always starts, hot or cold, I am satisfied. Paint has dings and pings, but isn't peeling. The RR mudflap got torn off, these all have plastic fenders so its a pain to repair and they always crack - look at any Chevy duallys from this era and you can see it. I almost forgot, my RR fender was very bad when I bought it, so I had it replaced and painted to match. Also the tailgate is messed up in the Bottom right corner. You can open or close it, but it won't stay closed firmly, so I just have a couple straps to help it. It's going to need a repair or new tailgate if you want it to function 100% right. AC works, heat works. Radio works. Cruise, power windows, power locks, and power seats work. This is a 6 speed, not an automatic! 1st gear is Granny gear - only need to use it with a load uphill. Usually I drive it out of 2nd gear. Also the previous owner changed the exhaust from the cat back. It is loud with glasspacks. I can make them pop if I want to. If you want a quiet Buick-style ride you will want to get a factory or other cat-back system and replace it. I have a shallow toolbox bolted down on it. No keys, and its a little bent up, but good place for straps and your Harbor Freight tools, etc. It's shallow so you can still put 8' boards and such under it. It has a ball in the center of the bed for goose-neck style hitches, as well as a regular rear tow setup - it works fine. Also has electric for a trailer and a magnetic brake controller in front, all works. As you can see it has a headache bar in the back, lights all work - just one roof light is out (probably a bulb, worked until a couple months ago). Also has a cattle catcher in the front, has minor bend on the bottom. Has step-ups as shown. Tinted windows, professionally done - they aren't purple or peeling. One of the rear wind guards over the windows has a piece broken off. Has other small features like a compass on the rear-view, and lots of working plugins for electric (cigar-style). Its a great truck for what it is, and well maintained by me. Engine is strong with great compression. Should have years of life in it. I would keep it, if I still needed a Dually, but I don't anymore. If you don't know already - the 8.1 Vortec is a higher tech/truck version of the original GM 454 used in Corvettes and other muscle cars from back in the day. The truck has no rust of any significance. It is a Southern truck. On Mar-03-14 at 13:57:08 PST, seller added the following information: Edit: I have owned this truck since 2011, not 2012. The front-end, and other repairs were done in 2011, not 2012. The tires were bought last year as stated. So I have about 14K miles on it in 3 years, not 2.
