Vehicle Detail
1985 4x4 short fleetside was going to be my insane project street truck. I cant make this site offer it but I will consider offers. OK here is the lowdown on my truck: RUST FREE BODY AND UNDERCARRIAGE!!! Bought it new. Has only 105,000 miles on everything but engine. Elec windows, air cond, overdrive automatic. Manual locking hubs, 4 wheel drive. Picture shows dash apart--I have all parts. Engine was bought 37,000 ago from Jasper Engineering for about $3,500. Hypereutectic pistons, new bearings, rods, bored .30 over, DART heads with 2.02 intake, double valve springs, new valve train of course, Edlebrock aluminum intake with Edlebrock 4 barrel carb to replace quadrajet, which I still have and goes with the truck. Has headers and stainless steel exhaust system. This is not a drag race motor. I ordered it to be built well and stronger than stock. Pay attention now---10 months ago I wanted to do something for fun and check engine wear, and I wanted to be sure Jasper had really given me 2.02 valves so I took off the manifold, loosened all the valves ( STUPID STUPID) and took off one head. It was perfect. No cyl wear at top, clean valves, etc. So I put the head back on with new gasket, torqued it to specs, replaced the intake but never put the carb back, the distributer back in or adjusted the valves. You would have to do those things to get it running. I had drained the oil and coolant so it would need those put back in. I have a new oil filter for it. It has an almost new water pump and steering pump though they don't look like it after sitting 10 months. It has a flex fan that pulls so much air it will suck your shirt off if you stand in front. It never even came close to being too hot. Air conditioner was ice cold but again---its been sitting. My wifes suburban blew a radiator and I stole the one from this truck to put it that so it needs a radiator. Brake pads and rotors are in good shape. Rotors are either new or maybe cut once, I cant remember. BODY: RUST FREE. Try to find a rust free 80s chevy. It has a few little dings and some paint marks on the sides from my wife and daughter opening their doors on it while getting into theirs, which caused little scruffs. I don't think any are even into primer. It has 5 to 7 (from memory) dings that may require just heating or perhaps about a half teaspoon of bondo if you want a mirror finish. PAINT: Never been garaged. Remarkable condition considering. I started to wax it and my rub cloth had paint color in it so I decided to let a professional do it but never did. Besides, I was going to have it custom painted root beer and tangerine. The paint on top the cab is worn into the primer and needs a primer coat. I was going to paint it white for the time being to reflect sunlight for a cooler cab but never did. STUFF: Has full electric brake and trailer hitch system but I never used it. Comes with original rally wheels OR a set of 1990 aluminum chevy mags from a suburban. BAD STUFF: Passenger window quit working but would if I banged on the drivers door switch, finally stopping for good. I believe it's the switch, corroded wire ends etc and not the motor. Someone had tried to steal it and broke open the column key hole. Russ chevy replaced the whole section but didn't torque the inner bolts so the steering wheel is floppy. You would either have to tear into the column or replace it. Also one blinker switch side either doesn't stay on or wont shut off after turning--cant remember . May be from same problem. Seat is cloth. Drivers side has split cloth and some worn rubber. Id replace the pad. I was going to have the seat done in heavy saddle leather dyed to match the new paint scheme. I was going to RHINO LINE the entire inner cab so took off the head liner and all the little trim pieces around the inner doors. I still have the pieces but no headliner. I like the truck much more without the liner and it wouldn't have matched my new paint. They are cheap anyway. This little truck was the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Thing would go through snow when tow trucks couldn't get through. It handles great and sits low. It has single front springs for soft ride---I didn't want to jack it up. In fact, I was going to lower the heck out of it and have a custom street rod with 4x4 which you seldom see. This was to be my last project 2 years ago. I was 58. Two years later I have multiple hernias and cant do anything heavy so I must give up my plans for this truck. You can get 80s chevy trucks all over for a few hundred bucks but most are rust/dent buckets or have been trashed as off roaders. If you can adjust the valves, put in the distributer, etc. It will only cost you a radiator (about 50 bucks) oil, coolant, the column and window switch fix and whatever you do to it if you are going to cherry it out. Otherwise just drive it. It was run as a highway commuter on synthetic oil I had it in 4 wheel a total of UNDER 100 MILES the entire time Ive owned it. Now its just sitting and will start to go bad if you don't take it. By the way, I never drained the fuel tank. I did take off and drain the carb. The old fuel would have to be sucked out of it. 3 tires are totally useless except to get it on a trailer. That's about all the history of my truck. I will send more pictures to anyone requesting them,.On Feb-26-14 at 11:38:32 PST, seller added the following information:UPDATE. looked truck over now that it stopped raining and I forgot that I used to have a camper shell on it--a light one but the rubber seal on the bottom edge of the flip up door wore into the paint on the top edge of the tailgate. It surface rusted , not deep, and is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide fro left to right. Guarantee no big deal, should take light sanding then paint over with no bondo or problems. I only have so many photos allowed or Id show it. The windshield washer motor on the washer plastic tank quit some years ago and I have another included. It takes about 15 minutes to put it on. I dont know about all states but in Oregon they do not inspect under your hood. We have the DEQ here and must pass each time to register it. This truck passes DEQ like its not even running. Very clean. Originally a California truck, it had an air injector. The headers on it have injector connections just in case but I never put it back on. Just want you to know if your state requires complete original equipment, is a state that requires the air injection and does inspections, it may be required though there is no mention of it or pictures of the system on the chevy decals under the hood. I will look to see if I have the old injector unit but may not. Buying through a website can be dangerous for a buyer who cant personally inspect a vehicle so Im trying to describe this just as I would to a family member. I noticed a passenger fender running light missing in the picture. These are about a dollar in junk yards. Someone asked about the BED CONDITION. The truck was never used for anything heavy so the bed metal is not torn up or rusted. Its a galvanized type of metal anyway and lasts longer. There is paint missing in spots all over on the bed bottom, but that started from the beginning. You just cant keep beds painted if you use them.On Feb-26-14 at 11:48:07 PST, seller added the following information:Forgot a few more things! Note the little hood ornament is missing. I also see that the tailgate rust does show in two photos. SOmeone asked about the dash plastic that goes in front of the instruments---its a textured black with silver edges. I know some had a brushed meatal or fake wood grain face that was stuck to them. This does not. THERE IS NO RADIO!! I forgot to add that. I think thats about it.On Feb-27-14 at 17:36:40 PST, seller added the following information:NOTE TO BIDDERS: I see a bid in from someone with NO HISTORY and Ive emailed them with no return. It looks good for me to have one to get your juices flowing but all it may do is just SCREW ME UP if its a no-pay and I have to go through proving to eBay that it wasnt legit. So unless the bidder returns my email I consider this no bid at all. BIDDER: If Ive misjudged you---my apology. You understand, Im sure.
