Vehicle Detail
1975 bus that has been in storage for the past 30 years. This bus was new in 75 and was last registered in the early 80's. I found it in dry storage just down the road from me when I went to purchase a different vehicle from a gentleman. This bus has the 1800 engine with the 4 speed manual trans. I got it running and drove it around a bit this summer. But from sitting for nearly 30 years it was in need of some work so I started in on a few things. The seals were dried up and leaking so I pulled the motor and had it completely resealed by a professional shop. At that time they honed the cylinders and re-ringed the pistons. They also did a complete valve job on the heads. The clutch assembly looked like new so we left that alone. While I had the engine out I decided to pull the fuel tank because the gauge was not working. So with that I put in a new sending unit and had the gas tank professionally cleaned. I also put new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, battery, electric fuel pump, oil sending unit, fuel hoses and rebuilt the carb. It has a center mount weber 2 barrel carburetor setup on it which is the way I found it. Originally this was a fuel injected bus. I have also put brand new tires on the bus. I will continue to tinker on this thing while I have it but I am looking to sell to make room for other projects. The only other thing it will need once I have it running should be a brake job front to back. Surprisingly the brakes worked after sitting all those years but I noticed one rear brake was hanging up just a bit so I plan on going through them all. The front has disk brakes and the rear are drums. The interior appears to be all original and in excellent shape. All the rubber floor mats throughout the bus are intact and in great shape. The seats are in great shape with one very small hole in the drivers seat. I have an original center seat that is not bolted in now and is white in color and in good shape with no rips but is dis colored in spots. I have the original mounting hardware for the center seat as well. The headliner is in excellent shape along with all the door panels. I should mention the glass is also in great shape and all there. This bus originally came from Colorado and is extremely clean with NO RUST. Under the battery is completely solid with no rust through as are all the floors. It has been repainted at one time over the original red color. It looks good but keep in mind it is a 30+ year old repaint so it is peeling and not perfect in spots. Looks like there may be a couple spots where there was some minor body work done. Spare tire and tools are still intact as well. I will try to show in the pics but it is hard to see in person. I will tell you this thing ran and drove down the road great. I am trying to describe to the best of my ability but am not familiar with vw's at all so if there are any areas you have questions about please ask. I do have a clean wi title for the bus.
