Vehicle Detail
This is a very nice 1978 Lotus Eclat S1. It has The very sought after Buick 215 V8 Conversion mated to a recently re freshened Borg Warner 5 Speed Transmission. This car is worth more than double what I'm asking for but since I got a new toy this one has to go. The body and paint are not show quality; however it is very decent. There are no signs of major accidents or damage repair. Underneath the car looks very solid with no rust problems. There are lots of the typical cosmetic Lotus stress cracks in the fiberglass body and also lots of chips, scratches and touch ups but overall the car still looks quite nice. This Eclat also has the desired and hard to find Euro bumpers. The gauges all work with the exception of the speedometer. I use a GPS with MPH read-out that gives me accurate speed readings. The fuel gauge and low fuel level light works as they should. The power windows work as they should as well. The headlights work and the pods go up and down as they should. Turn signals work but the switch needs replacement as the high beams are inoperable. Horn works. The Engine is in good condition. I recently sent the transmission to a reputable transmission shop here in San Antonio to install a synchro kit and change all gaskets and o rings. The trans shifts through the gears as it should and is very solid. The cooling and charging systems work great. There is a full size spare tire that matches the rest of the tires. It has Spax adjustable shocks (need replacing) in the front and back. The steering and suspension are ok and the car rides nicely. . The car has never left me stranded on the side of the road or anything but I do need to stress that this is an older Lotus and should not be used as someone dependable transportation unless they have the knowledge base these old cars require. I ask any potential bidders to please research these cars and understand old british systems such as Lucas electrics and the like. Overall this is a nice looking and fair driving example of a great classic British car. It has a clear Title in my name and is currently licensed in Texas. I know Im missing something so please ask questions and I will answer when I can (usually evenings). The car stereo stereo seen in the pics has been removed. This is an addition I recently made: I noticed today the turn signal switch went out. I will adjust the price from 4200 to 4000 to cover the cost of a new switch. I will also throw in the original Lotus tool bag with original tools and an official Lotus work book for this car. I've seen these two items sell for big bucks in the past
