Vehicle Detail

1985 Toyota Deluxe Long Bed 4X4 Truck BUILT TO LAST --- CLASSIC LOOKS --- TOYOTA TOUGH Toyota Truck/Hi-Lux Background: “Toyota’s pickup trucks have a worldwide reputation for quality and toughness. Forget the high school boys bouncing around in Tacomas over here, the Toyota Hi-Lux is the third word’s favorite beast of burden. In parts of the globe so remote they barely qualify as being on the globe, Toyota trucks cross rugged trails overloaded with farm equipment, goods, soldiers, mining gear…anything and everything. There probably isn’t a vehicle on Earth more abused than the Toyota pickup.” (source: edmunds.com) Details: Due to a home remodeling project, I’ve decided to sell a few of my vehicle projects. I purchased this vehicle with the intention of making it my daily driver, but my priorities have changed and I’ve decided to drive my Land Cruiser daily while we complete our home remodeling. This truck is a 1985 Long Bed Deluxe with Four Wheel Drive (4WD). The truck comes with factory 4-cylinder 22R-E engine, Automatic Overdrive Transmission and has 167,160 miles on the odometer. Factory Toyota ice cold A/C, Heater, and Power Steering. The truck comes with clean California title and is currently registered as non-operational for insurance purposes since I do not drive the truck on a daily basis. I will describe the vehicle to the best of my ability and would encourage any potential buyer to come and inspect the truck prior to bidding. I purchased this vehicle in August of 2010 from a gentleman in Boulder City, Nevada who owned the truck for 21 years. The truck was driven in Arizona, Nevada, and California for its entire life. At the time, I was looking for the perfect truck; one with a solid front axle, fuel injection, power steering, air conditioning, low fuel consumption and solid dependability. I chose this truck since it contained these options, came from a dry climate and proudly wearing its original desert tan paint job from the factory. These trucks often get wrecked, lifted, mutilated and otherwise destroyed by previous owners. No complex navigation, aftermarket radios or fancy aftermarket accessories here. Truck Exterior The truck’s history is most evident on its original exterior finish. The truck has numerous scratches, small dings and dents throughout. However, after a few hours of cleaning and polishing, the original single-stage paint job continues to shine and maintain much of its luster. Small scratches and areas throughout the body have begun to work themselves into surface rust which can be curbed by normal waxing or the new owner could opt to restore the paint to its original finish. The previous owner was an electrician who used the truck for work. This is evident when looking at the truck’s tough double wall bed. There are visible marks and scratches in the bed from use, but plenty of life remaining as visible in the photos. The rubber sides molding trim pieces are worn and/or loose. Next, there is one small golf ball sized ding just behind the chrome bumper on the rear passenger side (see photo). Otherwise, all bumper caps, trim, tail light lenses and side makers are in good functional condition. Two replacement rear 4WD mud flaps will be included with the sale, as the truck is missing one rear mud flap. The tailgate maintains its original “TOYOTA” decal and all factory emblems are intact. Overall, the truck is very straight and a great candidate for a full restoration or to be used as a daily driver. The truck comes with optional Chrome Rear Step bumper, Window Package (sliding side vents and rear window), Tow Bar, and aftermarket chrome wheels. Truck Interior The truck was delivered with the Deluxe package, which included upgraded cloth bench seat and chrome side mirrors. Other options include digital quartz clock and factory Toyota cassette player. The factory brown interior includes padded vinyl dash, vinyl door panels, manual windows, vinyl floor mat, headliner and vinyl head rests. The truck’s dash appears to have been covered since day one with a carpet dash cover. Unfortunately, the previous owner opted to glue the dash cover to the vinyl dash and its removal would be a nice challenge. Additionally, the cloth bench seat has a few rips on the passenger side and a small tear on the driver’s side. The headliner, vinyl sun visors and door panels appear to be in excellent condition. Mechanical The truck’s original engine was rebuilt approximately 4,000 miles ago. New head, valves, bearings, oil pump, timing chain, tensioners, belts, hoses and other items were also replaced at the time of the rebuild. The truck’s automatic transmission shifts nicely and I have driven the truck at both city and highway speeds. The four wheel drive functions as it should. The floor shifter may need slight adjustment, as it has some level of play but works as-is. Overall, all factory-installed equipment is intact as it came from the dealer. No upgraded aftermarket ignition, headers, load exhaust or other modifications. The truck includes a small stack of service records from the previous owner. The EPA estimated fuel economy for these trucks is in excess of 18 MPG making this one super fuel efficient. Known issues/Items to correct: The truck is not perfect by any means but would make for a wonderful restoration candidate or daily driver. The truck would be just as happy making weekend Home Depot runs or camp trips. The following issues should be addressed: The windshield has a small pencil-sized chip on the driver’s side. Next, there is a small plug in the sidewall of the rear passenger tire that I just discovered while detailing the truck. The tire will need to be replaced. The truck includes a clear California tile but has not been smogged. All factory-installed emissions equipment including OEM catalytic converter appears to be intact. As mentioned previously, the vehicle’s body is fairly straight but has small dings and dents typical for a vehicle of its age. The paint appears to be original and there’s something to be said about a vehicle that has not been painted or wrecked. There are only minor specs of surface rust here and there but the truck is very clean overall. The truck deserves a nice coat of paint or at the very least to be put back on the road and driven daily. Bidders/Terms of Sale The truck is located in the Los Angeles/Orange County area of sunny California accessible from both LAX and John Wayne Airports. Please e-mail me with any questions using the EBAY button and I will return your message as soon as possible. I strongly urge you to contact me and schedule an appointment to look at the truck if you are interested, as the vehicle is being sold as-is. Please contact me PRIOR TO BIDDING if you have any negative feedback or a feedback rating of less than 25. I suggest that you make all arrangements for purchasing the vehicle PRIOR to bidding. Winning bidder to make all arrangements and is responsible for all shipping. Winning bidder to contact seller within 48 hours of close of auction. THE SELLER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION AT ANY POINT PRIOR TO BIDDING. I WILL NOT DISCLOSE MY RESERVE PRICE.
