Vehicle Detail

1964 Honda Scrambler CL72 250. Offering this number-matching legendary bike in restored, running, condition tagged and titled for the road. I have sold a number of bikes on eBay with all positive feedback. This is my last one to sell! When I brought this bike home two years ago, I faced a project that had been poorly spray painted decades before, with paint even on the headlight and chrome. The handlebars were hacked into ape-hangers. A disaster. Look after the first few pictures to see the poor condition. Countless hours of hard work and countless dollars brought this bike back to life. Each part of the bike was dissembled and cleaned. The frame and hard parts were taken down to bare metal. The motor was soda blasted to clean off decades of grime. I rechromed the original pipes an OEM set of handlebars, the brake lever, and a few other parts. New zinc plated hardware was used throughout. I wanted to keep this bike, but I simply need the money for school. I treated the restoration as I would a bike I would keep. I wouldn't consider riding a vintage bike without new wheel bearings, brakes, lubricated cables, new tires, and those other must-replace items. That's why you'll find them replaced on this Scrambler. About the photos: Please note, some photos were taken in late Fall (before cables were routed. front brake cable installed, and a grip hadn’t yet been installed). The "garage photos" reflect it's most current incarnation. So, why is this bike special? What's been restored? Fuel System New air filters and rubber intake hoses Fuel petcock rebuilt New gas cap New fuel lines Carburetors cleaned, rebuilt, and set to original specifications Gas tank cleaned Engine New ignition (points and condenser) Valve lash and timing adjusted Re-chromed pipes (service alone costs ~ $500), new exhaust seals New clutch Body Sand blasted and professionally repainted at el Chapin in Tulsa using matched colors. Rechromed handlebars Professionally reupholstered seat with new foam and new vinyl Incredibly clean low mileage speedometer installed (I have original, which shows 7,xxx miles) New fork boots Numerous parts polished or repainted Hardware re-zinc plated Electronics New wiring harness New battery New headlight Wheels and chain New Tires, new tubes Spokes re-zinc plated, relaced, and trued at Honda of Tulsa New Chain, new sprockets front and rear New Japanese wheel bearings all around New Japanese brake pads front and rear Other New grips Throttle pipe thoroughly cleaned and relubed New throttle cable, new rear and front brake cable I’d grade this bike an 8.5/10 with a 10/10 being the $9,000-$10,000 museum piece. It has many 10/10 features (replated hardware, new chrome, new parts throughout), but it's not perfect. The bike is about 99.5% complete. It needs a horn; the speedometer cable is dirty, but functional (not installed), and the secondary headlight switch on the headlight bucket is not yet installed (I have it) . The frame paint (red) is not as durable as I would like. I’ve had to touch up a few spots when doing things like wrestling in the motor. I prefer powder coat, but wanted to keep it original and use paint. I have a full quart of both the silver and red paint that I will include free. The oft-broken battery box was rewelded at some point. Additionally, there are two welded tabs in the rear corner of the bike that I assume held on a rear storage bracket (photographed). Wheels were cleaned up, but they were not rechromed. As the bike isn’t insured, I have not driven it on the highway or out of the neighborhood. It does shift fine through all gears and has plenty of power. It’s a real treat to ride. I will include FREE a box of spare parts I have from other Scramblers and quite a bit of re-zinc plated hardware. As always, this is a used motorcycle and is sold as-is. You should check the bike thoroughly before each ride and wear protective equipment.Bidding Please do not wait until the last minute to bid. Each auction, someone “misses” the ending bell and asks to buy it outside of the auction for a bit more. I can’t do that. I have a very, very low reserve. I must sell this bike to cover school expenses, so it couldn't wait until summer. Get a great deal NOW! Shipping I can help buyer with shipping. I’ve had bikes sent to Florida, New York, Mass., California, Michigan, Texas, Kansas, and Louisiana. I can personally deliver the bike to Texas, but payment must be made beforehand. $500 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hours of auction close. On Jan-04-14 at 14:34:44 PST, seller added the following information: I wanted to add a few notes. I will add another as necessary. 1. I noticed someone tried to test my reserve price and withdraw their bid. I have a very low reserve. If I had the opportunity, I would buy 20 of these bikes for my reserve price. I would not remotely consider selling it for that price locally, but something told me to put it on ebay and have faith. I would be asking about $6500 for this bike if it were spring. We are in the middle of a nationwide winter storm, so someone may steal it for significantly lower.2. There is some marring on the posterior superior part of the exhaust pipe. Just noticed it today. Should be visible in the photos. Shows up like a few drips.3. The delivery to Texas would be to the Dallas Metroplex, or somewhere on that way from Tulsa. I would be to be compensated for my time and resources to get there. Otherwise, there are excellent shipping outfits.
