1972 Suzuki GT550 GT 550 GT550J warehouse find stored for years Runs Great! This is a nice 1972 Suzuki GT550J that I just took out of years of storage. I bought the bike years ago, and it has been stored in a dry West Texas warehouse ever since. I bought it out of Missouri, on a Bill of Sale only, no title, and I am offering it here on a Bill of Sale with no title as well. I will provide the original Bill of Sale from the previous owner, as well as a Bill of Sale from me to you. I find myself lacking the time or resources to complete a total restoration as I had planned, so I have pulled it from the warehouse, blown the dust off, given it a "spit bath" consisting of wiping it down with a soapy cloth and drying it. I flushed the tank, cleaned the carbs, and installed a good battery, and it started right up and runs great. The engine is tight and solid, with no unusual noises, and it runs great. It is in good condition, with all major componets appearing to work correctly. I have observed that it does have a few items in need of attention: There is noticeable corrosion on some of the hardware, such as various nuts, bolts, and screws, the taillight bracket, the steering stem nut, and various other components. The clear coat on the engine cases has discolored with time, and has peeled in places. The fuel petcock will need a new diaphragm, as it runs great on "Prime", but runs out of gas in the "On" and "Reserve" positions. The kickstarter works fine, but the return spring is either out of place or broken, as it does not return by itself and has to be manually returned to the original position. So the kickstarter spring will need to be rewound or replaced if you want it to return as normal. The electric start works perfectly, so this is not a big deal. There is a leak of some kind that appears under the bike when it is parked. I have not investigated the source. The tires will need to be replaced. Needs rear brake shoes. There may be other items I have not seen, so view the photos and the video for a closer inspection. See a video of the bike running here: http://youtu.be/FyrvpWC3KEI NO INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS PLEASE, as this bike is sold on a Bill of Sale, with NO TITLE. Also offered locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction early. Please message on eBay with any questions. Winning bidder is responsible for a $300 non-refundable deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of auction-end, balance due within 5 business days. Cash or Cashiers Check accepted. NOTE-Because Cashiers Checks can be forged, I must cash your Cashiers Check PRIOR to releasing the motorcycle. So, please make sure your Cashiers Check is from a bank with a branch in Lubbock TX, and remember I must present it at the bank during normal banking hours in order to cash it. If you are picking up outside of normal banking hours, you will have to get the Cashiers Check to me in advance so I can cash it beforehand. Same applies for personal checks. Upon winning the auction, please pay a non-refundable $300 deposit through PayPal immediately. The balance is due prior to pick-up. Buyer is responsible for making all shipping arrangements. Pick-up is expected within 1 week of auction-end. If you need longer, let me know, and as long as payment in full is received, I can work with you for a later pick-up time if needed. INTERNATIONAL: We encourage International bidders, but please be aware that you will need to get payment in full to me within 3 business days, and you will need to make ALL shipping/Customs arrangements yourself. On Dec-05-13 at 07:16:36 PST, seller added the following information: I mentioned it in the video, but forgot to mention in the listing that the baffles are missing from the left and right pipes. The center pipes have the baffles in them. Also there is a small amount of rust in the fuel tank. As far as I know the bike has never been crashed or involved in any accident, and shows no signs of any accident damage. On Dec-09-13 at 08:48:35 PST, seller added the following information: The description says it is also for sale locally. However, it reached my Reserve so quickly that I decided not to offer it locally. It will definitely sell to the highest bidder here on eBay. On Dec-10-13 at 12:47:04 PST, seller added the following information: In answer to a question I took a couple of photos of the oil leak(s) under the bike. For some reason I couldn't add photos in eBay, so I posted them here: https://plus.google.com/photos/109940722513677010962/albums/5955865291601783809 I have been out of town a lot lately, but today I made the trip across town to the warehouse to see how much oil there is under the bike. The first photo is taken under where the bike has been sitting since the day before the listing, so about a week. The second photo is taken where the bike was sitting the first time I started it, which was before I cleaned the carbs, and where it sat for several weeks waiting for me to find the time to clean the carbs. I think a lot of the oil in the second photo came from the exhaust the first time I started it. It did not run right, so I waited until I had a chance to clean the carbs and flush the gas tank before I took the photos and video for this listing. That's what you see in the second photo, the area where it sat during that time, which again was several weeks. Most of that appeared immediately after starting it for the first time. In both cases, I am not even sure all the oil is from this bike. I had another old bike that I got going before this one, and I worked on it and had it sitting in the same places, so some of the oil might be from it. In any event, I do not know, and have not tried to determine, where the oil is coming from. Assume the worst, and then anything less than that is good news. Nor have I checked the compression. I simply do not have the time or resource to do more than get it running. The compression feels strong and even, on all 3 cylinders, when kicking the engine through. I was told by the previous owner that he had done a complete engine overhaul, including crankshaft rebuild and a new top end. I received no documentation of this from him, but the engine sounds good and tight. I did not mention it in the listing because I can't provide any documentation. I am only mentioning it to you because you asked about compression. But I am not guaranteeing anything, only reporting to you what I was verbally told. I hope this info is helpful to you. Let me know if you have more questions. On Dec-10-13 at 12:50:27 PST, seller added the following information: Here's the question that prompted the above post: "How bad would you say this bike is leaking oil? Could you tell me any more info on this; new seals? gaskets? Also, have you done a compression test on the 3 cylinders? I just want to make sure the compression is where it should be before bidding."
