Vehicle Detail

What you are buying is a 100% original 1910 Flying Merkel motorcycle! With a little bit of elbow grease and an uninterrupted weekend perhaps it could look just like the one in the photo! Or if you prefer, as many people do, enjoy it as an original. You know what they say "It is only original once!" If you look closely at the photos you might notice that a few of the parts may be missing. No worries, these days you can make just about anything, what matters is that what is there is original! Many old Harleys and Vincents have been made with less original parts than this and they sell for tens of thousands of $$$$$! The tube frame has some rust (so do the other parts) The engine casting is about 2/3 there but SO cool (I know it is not a 1910 but a Middletown case which dates it as 1913 or 1914). The pistons aren't even rusty and still preserve some engine oil and grime that is an antique as well! I know this keeps getting better and better. I particularly love the old seat which I am pretty sure it is a Troxel. I have conditioned the leather and it isn't brittle. If you wanted to use it on another bike it is a treasure in itself. I have a Buy it Now price. Since Merkel's so seldom change hands I picked this price based on a NY sale earlier this week so I am quite sure you will consider it fair. If by some miracle nobody buys it by hitting the Buy it Now, I have set the reserve at a RIDICULOUSLY low amount since the bike is taking up space in my garage and I am thinning things out a little. I make no promises that the bike will run as I am not a mechanic. Bike comes with bill of sale, not "Clear title" since bill of sale isn't an option on eBay... The mileage is not known since Flying Merkel's didn't come with speedometers. (Hey a part that isn't missing! Yea) Please bid generous and bid often! On Nov-26-13 at 08:41:33 PST, seller added the following information: Just to clear things up, this is a serious auction! Flying Merkels are rare and any old Flying Merkel Part can have value. The parts in the photos are what is being sold, as the condition states, if you don't see it in the photos you don't get it! Of course Flying Merkel pistons or the partial engine case and certainly the seat would each be worth several hundred dollars! Even the rusty valves or the useless handlebar risers might be of some value to a person who needs to see one to help him recreate it! I intended for the auction description to put a smile on someone's face and poke fun at people who create fakey-do bikes from a single part or no parts at all. I hope that my tongue-in-cheek description hasn't left anyone confused. Even though the bike is only about 3% or 4% there (as measured by wieght) maybe you will get pleasure at bike shows saying "Yes, I have a Flying Merkel in the garage, haven't gotten around to restoring it just yet" (that was humor too, sorrry)
