Exceptionally solid rust free 1971 Volvo 1800E Coupe as driven by Roger More, The Saint, in the TV show of the same name. When new these cars cost the same as a Porsche 356 or Jaguar XKE. Nice 356's and XKE's now start in the 100's. The 1800 Volvos have languished for years but are starting to climb rapidly both here and in Europe. Body made in England by Jensen; first cars assembled there; later cars like this one had bodies made in Britain by Jensen and shipped to Sweden for final assembly. Many of these cars have serious rust issues for which repairs will far exceed the reserve price on this car. Don't bother to as the reserve; this is an auction after all. If you are looking for the absolutely best place to start your own restoration, build a relatively expensive driver quality car, or build a serious restomod (hot rod which looks stock but has modern stuff inside and underneath) this is probably your best, least expensive option over a lower priced, rusty pig, or car missing major pieces which are getting scarce. The car runs, lot drives, and was driven regularly in the summer by the former owner. All A/C gear is there but doesn't work Good news is all interior parts are available from the original manufacturers for Volvo in Sweden, and engine pieces are easily available. Many suspension and other pieces interchange with the much more common 122 series Volvo sedans and wagons which were introduced a few months after the 1800. There is also an aftermarket electric power steering unit which mounts hidden under the dash but makes the car much more pleasant to drive. Several websites have information on upgrades like later model Volvo auto transmissions with overdrive, aftermarket springs, swaybars, and other add-ons. I have several other 1800's in my collection in various states of restoration of repair.
