He had been driving it himself for almost a year, "Because it's such a nice car!" He sold it to me as a favor and I've put 60,000 miles on it since then (about 12k per year, mostly interstate my wife commuting from here to Louisville). Since my wife doesn't commute anymore because she works from home, and I got a great deal on a Lincoln I just don't need the extra car. Considering this is a luxury car, it drives like a performance sedan: great acceleration, handling and stopping are superb. We've taken our three teenage kids on vacation to Florida with all of them riding comfortably in the back, so there is plenty of room for passengers and a huge trunk for luggage. The AC is ice cold, the factory sound system is incredible, heated seats in the winter are so comfy, the tires only have about 10k miles on 40k mile tires, so plenty of use. Since I've had it, I replaced the alternator, battery, tires, regular oil changes, head light and tail light bulbs, and I had the crankcase gasket and timing belt replaced at the same time to correct a minor oil leak and it was scheduled for a new timing belt anyway. I did a minor home repair to fix the passenger front door pull. This is a typical Volvo problem since the entire door's weight is centered on a little plastic piece, rather than replace the entire door panel, I fit a metal washer over it and screwed it back in. Not the prettiest fix, but definitely better than the manufacturer's set up and it will last. The interior shows the wear of a 13 year old leather. The front seats were beginning to crack, and the front arm rest leather pealed off. I ordered and installed custom fitted leather seat covers on the front, the rear ones are available if you want them, although the rear seats are not cracked. The driver side rear door lock does not automatically lock/un-lock with the power lock features because of some plastic gear that is out of alignment (too expensive to pay the dealership to fix for such a minor detail unless you're handy with that kind of thing). It can be locked/un-locked manually. The power moon roof works perfectly, except that the interior sunshade sometimes gets off track. It has never leaked, and both the pop up and the slide back work fine, it's just that cloth covered sun shade that sometimes gets stuck and you have to pull it back into place by hand. The only other issue is the rough idle, we think due to a mis-firing ignition coil (like a distributor, but each cylinder/spark plug has one). It should be fixed with a tune-up, but frankly I just don't have any more money for car repair. I just bought a new house, and the higher payments have stretched my budget. If it weren't for that, I'd just let one of my kids drive it when they turn 16, it's a good dependable car and you could drive it anywhere.
