Vehicle Detail
This 1990 Toyota Celica GT-S, is special. It has less than 104,000 miles. It has wonderful, completely original, white paint which looks extremely fresh. (The pictures you see are un-waxed.) It has a beautiful blue leather interior, is the GT-S model, has a moon roof, and retractable headlights. There is no rust or corrosion anywhere I can see. And, it has always been garaged. Our family is the second owner and it is in outstanding external condition. It is a head-turner. However, this car is not for someone who needs a car to drive immediately, daily. It has been used very little over the last decade, though it does run, and I have periodically exercised it by driving around the block. It has not been inspected by the DOT since 2004. Do not buy this car if you expect to simply have it inspected, and then to immediately use it daily. Its known issues include the following: It will need new tires and probably realignment. One tire has a slow (weeks) leak. The other tires show indications of uneven wear and in places are worn smooth. The tire size used on this vehicle, are not now generally available, so it will require a different size tire than the stock tire provided at its time of manufacture. There are two small dents, without paint disruption, very shallow, perhaps 2 to 3 inches in diameter, one on the center of the door, another on the right front quarter. They are not at all obtrusive but they are there. The vehicle rocks a bit when being driven at slow speeds, which I interpret as meaning that shock absorbers may need to be replaced. There is sometimes a body “clunk” heard when driven over a bump. The manual transmission and clutch appear to work fine. The engine starts promptly, and smoothly, and the battery is about two years old. The parts of the exhaust system that I can see, look fine. Brakes seem to function well, without any fading or noise. The air conditioner does not cool the car, and the electric antenna retractor does not retract, though their motors appear to turn. Strereo works fine. The electric door locks, directional signals, moon roof and retractable headlights function normally. Interior and exterior lights work fine. Electric windows and manual locks work normally. Airbag is original, it is not known if it would fire normally. No warning dashboard lights stay lit. Gauges appear to register normally. The rubber seals for the doors and windows look great. Small spots can be found on the garage floor when I pull into the garage, suggesting it has an oil leak. However it does not burn oil that can be seen in the exhaust. The blue leather interior is in remarkably good shape. There is some moderate wear and cracking on the driver’s seat, however everything else looks terrific. Trunk and upholstery also look great. The steering wheel has a few small spots where the surface leather has slightly delaminated. The interior has a bit of a musty odor consistent with leather, but appears never to have been exposed to any tobacco. I have all the records, original manual, et cetera. The car has always been well protected, and never abused. It was owned first by a woman in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, who sold it to my father who was a very finicky Orthodontist and was meticulous about maintaining it. When he passed away in 2003 I inherited it, and drove it very little, but always kept it in my garage, pretty much as an object of sentiment. After I inherited it, I had some minor stone–strike damage to the interior of a back wheel well repaired by a good professional auto shop for $250. The car has been using very little since then. To my knowledge it has never been any sort of substantial accident. All the glass has the Toyota logo. I see no rust. This car is best purchased by the type of person who is a Celica aficionado, and can and will do the evaluation, and work, needed to check things out, and make things right. I believe that such a person would be rewarded with a rather nice showpiece classic. The body and interior are way too nice to consider using it as a race vehicle, or to abuse it in some other physical way. My understanding is that these cars are easily worked on, however, I don't think you can expect daily reliability without a careful evaluation and assessment, because it is basically all original. I can demonstrate that the car runs, however as mentioned above, it is not currently inspected and registered. Shipping and delivery of the vehicle will have to be worked out, because of these issues. I do not believe it should be placed into full service until the above issues, particularly regarding the tires, are attended to. However I can demonstrate that the car does run and functions, as noted above. A fair price for something like this, is unclear, therefore it will be auctioned without reserve. The car is sold explicitly AS-IS, but if you are interested you can have it looked over before bidding. Please contact for any questions or further information.
