Vehicle Detail
This is a REALLY neat four speed XL that came with the deluxe steering wheel. One of only a few I have seen in Fairlanes.Speedometer has rolled over at least once. I bought the car many years ago and drove it around until trying to teach my wifehow to drive a four speed, when the clutch linkage failed.I assumed it was the bell housing pivot, but in fact it was a failure at the clutch pedal brace. The good thing about that was I had a correct manual pedal brace in good shape which came from a 66 GT.The bad thing was the master cylinder/booster bolts were more than I could deal with, and the car has sat since. The sheetmetal on the right front, ie the fender and door on the passenger side are not very good. Just lumpy. While the drivers side sheetmetal needs various rust patch repairs, the relative straightness is much better than the passenger side.I have a very nice door and fender from a 500. I believe it is the correct side for this car.I will verify and photograph those excellent parts and INCLUDE THEM WITH THIS CAR.I believe the floors and structural parts of this unibody are in very good shape, I will photograph the undercarriage as best I can shortly. This is a very neat Fairlane, well worth the trouble of restoring and great fun to drive. The interior is essentially excellent, with a rip in the passenger seat bottom. The four speed console was cut in front of thefactory shifter bezel to provide clearance for something. I mounted an 8 track player which will be removed, does NOT come with car.The black XL door panels are very nice, the plastichrome armrest bases need replated. The headliner is nice and the dash has some sort of cover in place. the gauge cluster and dash trim all look nice but could be replated as well.I should be able to provide the necessary sheetmetal to bring it into top notch condition.Once I have finished photographing parts and unseen areas of the car I will be able to answer questions.High bidder makes all arrangements for transportation within two weeks of auctions completion, and full payment within 72 hours. On Jul-11-13 at 15:13:22 PDT, seller added the following information: after looking things over a little closer, I should mention this is a manual steering car, the drivers side door window regulator is shot, the window falls open several inches. The hood does not want to open completely. The springs have been pulled off the hinges and it will open partially, and close again easily, but at a certain point it does not want to cooperate nor should it be forced. The hood bolts can be removed when it is partially open and then the hinges can be replaced or repaired, but Im not opening that can of worms.for now the hood is in place and aligned, and thats better than loose and in the way. The floors are all fairly solid despite lots of ugly surface rust. Nothing like the rusted out areas I have seen in other floorpans.the frame rails and major supports all seem just fine, its the floors and trunk drops that feature surface rust spotting. The trunk and hood probably have lots of rust in bracings or spots but really arent terribly bad. the engine may be completely original, but I have no knowledge of its internals.Looks correct. The interior is unbelievably nice. the dash pad has a crack across the top but is in very good shape with a carpeted cover attached with sticky bars of some sort, should clean and look nice or leave it as it is. door panels and headliner and seat covers are all in very good shape minus the lower passenger rip and years of dust. This car has tinted glass, the windshield is cracked, it came with the deluxe steering wheel and hubcaps.the trunk mat is in very nice shape, I didnt want to rip it up to look underneath. The trunk lips are in pretty decent shape, many of the trouble spots for fairlane rust dont seem to be a problem on this car.I think it spent some time in georgia or somewhere and got exposed to elements we dont normally deal with here.Car is originally a light metallic green with a chalky white paint job over it. This car was gorgeous when it was brand new, and its still a looker.I have more pictures than I can display and hopefully some answers to anyones questions.
