ORIGINAL 1987 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 COUNTY STATIONWAGON 3.5 V8 For sale: a stunningly beautiful classic original Defender 110 named Victoria! The Story It is 1 of 16 left! A real collector’s item! The combination of a 10 seats “County” most luxury finished with a 3.5 V8 engine and a LT85 gearbox is very hard to find. Even harder to find are the ones that are totally original like this one and so well maintained that it looks like a 21th century Defender although it’s a 1987! The service history that comes with the Defender shows that the mileage is correct and there hasn’t been any work done to the odometer like there is on so many others. The receipts of recent service are also in the car. They proof what has been done to it and how well it has been maintained by Land Rover specialists. The last owner had it for over 10 years and did everything in his power to keep it in the condition it is. He has now retired and got physical problems so driving a stick got impossible. For him it was an emotional moment letting Victoria go.People who are familiar with classic Defenders will be astonished by this one. Although it has driven some miles on the beautiful British roads, it will have many many more in it. Under normal usage and proper maintenance, those V8 blocks can do over 300.000 miles because they aren’t build for racing but for endurance. If you prefer diesel, like the Land Rover 300 TDI, this Defender is a perfect basis to convert, now or in the future. But please enjoy this V8 first. It isn’t as quick as a Ferrari but it is such a nice cruiser. The Engine The V8 petrol engine has a twin carb system. It starts within a second and runs as smooth as silk. It never misses a beat and has his characteristic V8 roar. For a cold start there is a choke available behind the steering wheel. The engine is really easy to maintain because the engine bay is very big and parts are widely available and come cheap. The engine is very well maintained and service has just been done. There is an extra Kenlowe fan mounted on the radiator which works thermostatically. So it can endure also the hotter parts of the country. The Transmission The gearbox is the original LT85 “Santana”. This is a very strong and exceptional gearbox. It has 5 speeds of which the first 4 are normal speeds and the 5th is an overdrive. This is the first model on which Land Rover used this, for these times, very modern box. Normally the overdrive has a separate stick but on this one it is the fifth gear. You can hear the difference beautifully. When you shift up from 4th to 5th, you hear the typical overdrive sound. The gearbox has been completely rebuild in 2006 and is therefore in superb condition. Selecting gears goes very smooth and there are no noises or rattles in the box accept for the typical “Santana” overdrive sound. The Defender is permanently in 4 wheel drive. High/low gear and differential lock are present and work perfectly. The gear knob is below and next to the gearbox shift stick. The Body The aluminum body is in exceptional condition. Of course you can see here and there that it isn’t new but that are only 2 small spots. It has been recently re-sprayed in sand/beige white. The result was breath taking. All the spots where the aluminum of the body started to show age, have been taking care of to permanently vanish. The firewall and foot wells are totally clean and rust free. The doors are free of rust, totally straight, close and open perfectly. Also the windows work as they should. The locks all work and on the same key. Of course two sets of keys will come with the sale. The Defender has a height adjustable tow bar with electrics. The Chassis The complete chassis is in perfect condition. It is hard and strong as to expect from this car. It has been coated with a special (white) impregnation substance that prevents rust and keeps it strong. This was done every two years. Over that layer, there is black overcoating. The chassis number or VIN is clearly visible. The VIN is: SALLDHMV7BA291700. Encoded this means: SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover LD Model: Defender (for early models: Ninety, or One Ten) H Wheel base: 110 inch M Body type: 4-door station wagon (LWB) V Engine type: 3.5 litre V8 petrol, carburettor 7 Steering and transmission: Right-hand drive (RHD), 5-speed manual (LT85) B Model year: 1985 to 1987 A Assembly location: Solihull, UK 291700 Serial number The Interior The interior is completely original and authentic. Even the radio is the original Philips. The whole inside of the vehicle is sound proofed and has the original carpets. The headlining is in perfect condition with almost no spots or other marks of age, which is very exceptional. The seats are brown/beige, leather/cloth and in very good condition. There are 3 seats on the front row, 3 on the middle row and 2 benches in the rear that will fit 4 adults or 6 children. Seatbelts are mounted. The Rest The tyres on the car are brand new except for the Pirelli spare wheel but it’s in very good condition. All the oils and lubricants in the axles, gearbox, transferbox and so one have either been refreshed or filled up. The Defender’s power steering system is in excellent condition. I have owned many Defenders and driven even more of them, but I never felt one that is driving and steering so well. No play at all in the steering wheel, which is rather strange for a classic Defender. Trying to be as honest as possible, I need to mention some bits. There is a small hole in the rear bumper that has been impregnated. There is a dent in the body on the left/rear corner, which is visible on the pictures. Because it’s a 1987 vehicle, it isn’t new and has his traces of age. But being totally original it is in an outstanding condition. The original books, service books, high jack lift and other stuff are in the vehicle. The Defender will be delivered with a US title so the buyer will have no concerns about EPA, DOT or Customs regulations. All that work will be done for you before pick up. The Defender is presently imported from Cornwall, England and will be waiting for you in New York City. Delivery anywhere in the US or Canada is no problem! Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to have further information.
