Vehicle Detail

1984 TOYOTA 4WD EXPEDITION / OVERLAND VEHICLE PROJECT TRUCK Toyota Truck/Hilux Background “Since the mid 1980s, the Toyota 4X4 compact pick-up has been split into two different models. The first is generally known as "pick-up" or "truck" as no model name has been attributed to it since the early 1980s, until the introduction of the Tacoma. This model is destined for the largest automobile and truck market in the world. The United States and Canada. The other model, the Hilux, was destined for every other market in the world.” “Through 1985, both the North American model and the Hilux were very similar. Both models had the same frame and solid front axle suspension. Both models used the same engines, although the diesel engine was rarier in the North American market. The Hilux differed in one major aspect. It included an optional 4door body style that the North American market would not see until 2000.” (http://www.brian894x4.com/Hiluxdifferences.html) 1984 Toyota Xtracab SR5 4WD Truck Due to a home remodeling project, I’ve decided to sell a few of my vehicle projects as my priorities have changed. I will describe the vehicle to the best of my ability but would encourage any potential buyer to come and inspect the vehicle prior to bidding. I’ve owned this vehicle since August of 2010 when I purchased it to create the ultimate overland adventure vehicle. A vehicle that would be simple, easy to maintain, and 4-wheel drive with a solid front axle. Also on my list was fuel economy and the legendary 22R 4-cylinder was a perfect choice. No complex navigation system, electronics or fancy accessories here. I’m sad to have to part with this 1984 Toyota Xtracab SR5 Truck with 5-speed manual transmission and air conditioning. This truck has 250,000 miles on its original 22R motor and was purchased in Lithia, Oregon by its original owner. Only genuine Toyota and high quality aftermarket parts were utilized as part of its build. The vehicle comes with clear California title and current non-operational DMV registration. A detailed service maintenance log provided from the previous owner includes a history dating back to 1992 when the truck had 94,000 miles (see attachment). This maintenance includes a description and mileage when the work was completed between 2006 and 2009. This work included a baseline of all fluids, rebuilt radiator, new coolant hoses and clamps, rebuilt rear drive shaft, fan coupling/clutch, thermostat, valve cover seals and gasket, distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires, fuel filter, engine air filter, drive belts, and front pinion seal. In addition to being such a rare and legendary vehicle, the following upgrades have been added to the vehicle. Included with the sale and currently installed are a ARB Australia Bull Bar with Warn XD9000 winch and controller, Old Man Emu (OME) shocks and steering damper, Old Man Emu (OME) 2-inch leaf spring kit, upgraded 1988 4Runner adjustable seats and dashboard with inclinometer/altimeter, and factory Toyota radio/cassette player. Known issues/Items to correct: The truck is not perfect by any means and will need the following items addressed: The engine suffers from low compression in cylinder 1 and 2 due to a burnt valve. The original clutch will need replacement. The exhaust manifold has a crack and muffler has a small hole. The manual locking hub selector is leaking grease. The vehicle is missing some interior trim items many of which were part of its interior color change from brown to gray. These extra parts are included with the sale and include items such as gray interior panels, trim pieces, headliner, etc. Chrome windshield trim is also absent. Lastly, the vehicle’s body is fairly straight but has small dings and dents typical for a vehicle of its age. The paint appears to be original and there’s something to be said about a vehicle that has not been painted or wrecked. There are only minor specs of surface rust here and there but the truck is very clean overall. The truck deserves a nice coat of paint or at the very least to be put back on the road and driven daily. The truck starts and drives but will need some work before being placed back on the road. Bidders I strongly urge you to contact me and schedule an appointment to look at the truck if you are seriously interested. Please contact me if you have any negative feedback or a feedback rating of less than 25. I suggest that you make all arrangements for purchasing the vehicle PRIOR to bidding. Winning bidder to make all arrangements and is responsible for all shipping. Although this is not perfect vehicle it would make an excellent starting point for someone with the time and money to see my project through.
