Vehicle Detail
HERE IS A VERY NICE LOOKING AND UNUSUALLY OPTIONED 1966 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE WITH MATCHING NUMBERS 289CI C-CODE V8 AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. VERY ORIGINAL CAR WITH 37,458 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, BELIEVED TO BE ORIGINAL! Please note: wheels/tires pictured do not come with the car but can be purchased separately if desired. Please e-mail me with questions or to set up an inspection to see the car in person. AUCTION MAY BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME. This car was acquired from the 2nd owner I believe. It had an older repaint in the late 1990s while retaining everything else original. Since I've acquired it I gave it a full tune-up, overhauled the brakes, adjusted the carburetor and made sure the electricals were working fine. Car runs/drives like a dream, very quiet and very smooth, smoother than any other stock mustang i've driven in the past if that means anything. Odometer shows 37k miles, which are believed to be original. Under the hood lies the MATCHING NUMBERS 289ci/200hp C-CODE 2V V8 motor that is virtually all stock down to the original valve covers, intake, exhaust manifolds and even the carburetor from the looks of it. Starts up nicely and idles beautifully. Mechanically it fires right up and sounds great. Transmission is solid and shifts good through all the gears. Brakes have been overhauled and stop great. Car feels great, handles the road nicely, sounds fairly quiet and is very responsive with little if any play in the steering wheel. Interior is virtually all stock as you'll see in the pictures. Seats are in good shape (rear seat has a small silver dollar hole by top right corner and small rip, otherwise other seats are fine). Dash pad has a couple of cracks. Carpet is NEW. Door panels are good (some paint peeling from metal areas of inner doors. Convertible top is in fairly good shape with no holes but has shrunk a bit by the sides (operates up and down great!). Steering wheel has a couple of cracks as usual. The RALLY PAC works perfectly (including the clock!) and looks to have been originally equipped to the car, same for the GT fog lights which have the switch on the bottom of the dash, again showing that they are most likely original equipment to this car. Overall a very presentable interior for a good driver. Chrome is very presentable as well. The bumpers are NOS and show well. Underside is surprisingly nice for a convertible. SOLID torque boxes, VERY CLEAN frame with nice frame rails front and rear, GOOD shock towers, NICE floorboards overall with a couple of small patches. My mechanic looked under the car and was actually impressed by how solid the underneath was, not perfect of course, but way better than most east coast Mustangs out there. Chrome wheels have some surface rust around the outer edges. The old girl is NOT perfect by any means of course so please keep that in mind when bidding. Paint is overall GOOD with FAIRLY NICE shine but appears to have been single stage down in the late 90s (some touch-ups, small chips, some peeling by inner trunk jamb and door jambs and other normal imperfections). No rust appearing from outside the car other than a couple of touched up bubbles by rear at base of convertible top and on the inside of the doors which are scaly but do not show holes through. Trunk lock missing. Not working: horn, radio. Convertible top latches need a good greasing. Had some sort of dealer installed CB radio/antenna in the trunk (I still have the CB radio piece as well as receiver mounted in the trunk). I am sure there are several other things I am forgetting at the moment, so overall she is not perfect and to do it justice should be gently restored to your liking, or you can just drive it as is. Please note, I cannot remember every single issue with the car, nor do I know everything wrong with it, as it is after all over 50 years old so keep that in mind. If you just want a GOOD LOOKING AND SUPER FUN DRIVER that runs/drives BEAUTIFULLY, then this is the car for you. If you want a concourse correct show car, it will need a considerable amount of restoration to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO.
