Vehicle Detail

1967 Mustang Convertible: This beauty, owned by a local Mennonite college professor, was stored and covered in a garage since 1993. It was pulled out of storage 1 week ago! The car was painted and cosmetically/mechanically (any problems) restored 2 years before storage. Notice the plates have 91 stickers on them! The car was originally a 3 speed, Dark Moss Green car with the saddle colored interior (nice combo) and factory tinted windows. Previous and current owner painted it red. We (see note below) went through the brakes and fuel system, rebuilt the carb, put a new battery in it and it fired right up. The has great sounding dual exhaust, car idles and runs great with no smoke or noises, very smooth, tight (power) steering, and looks fantastic. The oil and coolant are clean. The radiator was rebuilt before it was stored. The owner said he replaced the original motor with an engine from a 66 mustang with low miles. He estimates the mileage on the engine to be in the high 60's. This would explain why it runs so quiet and strong. The carb and engine tags as well as the original door tag and body buck tag (see pics) are all in place. The carpet and dash pad are very nice. Options include: 4-speed, Hurst shifter and console, Equal-lok rear (code A), pop-open gas cap, rocker trim, Dual exhaust, 11 inch (big block) front drums, GT sway bar, dash clock, POWER TOP, 15x7 factory style mag wheels, export brace and monte carlo bar on engine bay for handling and stiffness, and aftermarket am/fm cassette stereo. It is rare that a non-GT car has the GT sway bar, larger drum brakes and a equal-lok rear. I did not order a Marti report (original invoice) but this paperwork would explain these options better. New parts added this week: Battery, master cylinder, rear wheel cylinders, rebuilding of front wheel cylinders, gas tank flush with new sending unit, and PETRONICS electronic ignition. We didn't touch the plugs and wires because it runs so nice!! Problems I see: (I am the owner of a 67 390GT convertible and am very familiar with these cars). This car is a solid 10 footer, but is not a show car. Most of the chrome and stainless looks great but there is pitting in the chrome of the original mirror and taillight bezels. Emergency brake does not work. Rear is an equal-lok, rare for a c-code car, but only one tire smokes when you nail it. Probably needs new clutches in the center section which is not a safety issue. The car had new quarter skins put on back in the 80's but it was done well. The owner said the floor and frame looked good when he bought it (see pics) but he put some small patches using fiberglass which are not visible because the car was undercoated and the overspray from the paint job is still intact. My guess is the car is structurally sound but may need inner rocker panels like most do sometime down the road. The front and rear frame rails are rust free but there are a few bubbles in the paint on the lower corner of a door. The rear quarter panel side vents are screwed in from the exterior instead of the interior (see pic). Parts that come with the car: The original 3 speed and shifter, 2 original air cleaners, original AM radio, 2 new spring shackle kits and a set of low mileage factory GT rear springs, 2 window mechanisms, another flip-open gas cap, used flywheel, 4 hub caps, 4 wheel rings, and a variety of other interior and exterior pieces. Our high school's auto restoration club, supervised by me (I am the principal), spent the last week getting it running and ready for sale. Part of the sale proceeds will be given to our auto club! The current owner never tried what you see below! GOOD LUCK BIDDING! On Apr-24-13 at 07:46:10 PDT, seller added the following information: The wheels and tires are not the ones that were on it in storage (someone asked this). They are off my 390GT convertible which means they are modern tires and not unsafe or dry rotted. The work done to the car has made it very road worthy should take little to pass most state inspections (no promises, car is sold as is). I would be comfortable driving it anywhere. The paint is Imron, which if you research was very good paint back in the 80's when this was applied. The fact that it has not seen the sun in 20 years means that it is in good condition other than typical wear from being driven for about 3-5k miles years before parked. THE RESERVE IS 13K!
