1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4x4 OHIO 4 cylinder, 5 speed. 198K miles SE model CD player Soundbar Previous female owner bought it in 2001 for $14,500.00. It had 43K miles on it then. I bought it for a good price a few days ago. I bought it with two possibilities in mind: Either make a few hundred bucks off of it or keep it for a cheap off road toy. Several things have been replaced including the clutch, radiator, alternator, etc. I drove the Jeep up to 60 mph before I bought it. It runs, drives, stops, shifts very good. It does not smoke, knock, leak, etc. The transmission shifts smoothly (no grinding at any time) and the clutch is strong. The brakes are good. The steering is tight. The interior is very clean. The seats aren’t ripped. The body of the Jeep has some surface rust, but everything is solid. The tops of the front fenders aren’t rusted out like most of these are---this Jeep was garaged. The frame is very solid—I’ve had several Jeeps and know that many older ones have frame rust issues. This does not—if it did I would not have bought it in the first place. Good tires. The engine compartment is clean. The heater works. The lights work. I have a few trails on my property. I have tested out the 4x4 system and it works like it should. None of the U-joints make noise, everything is in good shape. Hi range 4x4, 2 hi, and 4 lo all work. This would make a good daily driver as is, or a cheap off road toy. I do not think I’m sitting on a goldmine here, but I do know that this is a cheap price for a clean running/driving Jeep TJ. This Jeep is not perfect by any means. If you want a perfect new Jeep, take your $30K to the dealer. If you want a functional older Jeep that is mechanically sound and hasn’t been abused, buy this one for less than 1/10th of the cost of new. The pictures were taken on 3-22-2013.
