Vehicle Detail
Retirement is here and we have to scale way back and say goodbye to our trusty little blue 1965 VW Bug. I'd love to restore this car and keep it cruising here on the California coast, but I had to face the fact that my days working on cars and trucks are over. I can't do the type of work any longer. It's time to give it up to someone who can take over from here. If you love restoring vintage VW's and have the talent to do so, this might be the vintage car that will flesh out that dream. We have not used the car in several years as we have just too many cars and many responsibilities to take care of. My father in law drove it before he passed away all the time and loved it. The car is currently not running because the fuel is not getting to the carb and the battery has not been charged for some time. The engine always cranked well so I know it is good. Although it is a stock '65 VW, it is very peppy. When the car got parked there was nothing wrong with the engine, trans or the electrical. The emergency brake cable inside the car on the handle got disengaged, but I'm sure it can be fixed as this is a pretty common thing. The VW was properly converted to 12 volt when by a local VW specialist. What else.....There's play in the steering that needs attention and I haven't opened the sunroof in 10 years so I can't tell you if it works or not. I purchased original pop out windows and had them installed along with the correct windshield and rear window rubber and trim to keep the factory look. I also added a black rubber interior replacement mat and the trunk has had the black mat and gauge cover replaced. The original jack is in the trunk and the spare holds air. When I got the car many years ago, the front hood needed to be replaced. The hood I purchased needed some repair, but the auto body I brought it to honestly didn't do a good job and it didn't last. I still have enough paint though that can be used for it which I'll give it to the buyer along with all the extra free goodies that are in the pictures. Please examine the photos well. You could repaint the car if you wished to or buff it out and use it as is. There is some rust on the sunroof, the hood a spot just by the passenger's side kick panel and a few other surface areas shown in the pictures. A gentleman that works on VW's stopped by said the pans on the car looked good. If I were to keep it, I'd get a fresh interior, sunroof kit and get it up and running again. With older cars as you know there's always something that can be done to make them better. If you have any questions about this 65 Bug, please ask before you bid. The car is being sold as is with no warranty so be certain you would like to own this car before bidding. I want to be upfront about anything you need to know and will do my best to fill in any blanks. For a 48 year old car that has not been chopped up I consider it to be in good shape. If you love restoring old VDubs this just may be your next great story! Just want the car to go to a good home and not get hacked up. It is currently on non-op and $79.00 is due in May. *This car is for sale locally. We reserve the right to cancel the auction early. Pay Pal deposit of $500.00 due within 24 hours from the successful bidder. Hope YOU get this friendly little VW..... Happy Bidding!
