This is a 1981 VW Rabbit Diesel. I was told that this car originally came from Washington State, and judging by the lack of rust on it, I believe it. The only real rust is on the rear corner of the drivers door. It is EXTREMELY clean for a Rabbit of this vintage, especially in the rust belt. Has later model aluminum rims and wider tires on it. The tires don't have much tread, but they look decent and hold air. It also has a pretty nice looking aftermarket CD deck in it. I got it from a friend who drove it for a few years as his daily driver until it blew a head-gasket. He tore the engine apart to fix it, but never got the job finished. The head and all engine parts are in the back of the car, along with a new head gasket still in the package. He said one of the head bolts broke off when they were taking it apart and he never got around to messing with it again. It also needs the wing windows glued back in, like they all do (I have them both). I bought it from him a couple years ago with the intentions of fixing it but there are so many different projects on the table right now, I have to get rid of a couple. I'm starting the auction a ONE CENT and letting it go to the highest bidder. There is NO reserve!! The car is located near Bloomington, Illinois. There is a $150 non-refundable deposit due via PayPal within 24 hours of the auctions end, and the balance will be due within a week, via cash, check or postal money order. If paying by check, the car will not leave my property until the check has cleared my bank. If payment has not been received after one week, the car will be re-listed, negative feedback will be left and you will NOT get your deposit back. The car will need to be picked up ASAP as I am running out of storage space here so I need it gone.
