Vehicle Detail

Selling this very rare and very early 3 gauge painted dash 1965 Porsche 912 #450597 in its original color of special order Togo Brown 6411. I have no COA, but the motor is suspected to be original and numbers matching #743304. This may be one of the rarest 912s out there as far as year and spec. There are only 3 other Togo Brown 912s known to exist. 1965 was the first year of the 912, and since porsche had not yet established the 901 color codes, they carried over the 356 color-ways for one year only, '65. Togo Brown was a special order color, and being brown, it was not that popular at the time. 1965 is also the only year that the painted dashboard was offered, another cue to the outgoing 356. There are many 912s out there claiming to be 1965s, when they are actually 1966 model year cars, this is a true '65 one of about 1200. If you know 912s, you know how rare this car is. I purchased this 912 solely on the fact that it is so rare and knew i would never find another. I am now reluctantly selling in order to finish my dream 356C coupe. With some time and money invested, this 912 could be a suburb driver or go all the way and do a full proper restoration to one of the rarest 912s, it is worth it. This 912 was owned by a gentleman in northern california for the past 30+ years, hence the original blue california plates. It also retains its vintage small california title "pink slip". It appears to be very solid. The floors are said to be original and the suspension pan was reportedly replaced with OE panels recently. I am not a body expert, but i cannot tell that it was replaced. All body panels look straight with no obvious accident damage. Good door gaps and shut lines. The car was recently painted to a decent driver quality in its original Togo Brown color. The dashboard looks to still be original paint. There is a small dent on the drivers door and rear valance that i tried to capture with the photos, but they are slight so it is hard to catch them with photos. Original orange bar Porsche crest in very good condition. Original 4-screw horn grills as well. Interior is in decent condition. the seats were recently re-done. headliner has a tear and interior lights do not work. rubber seals could use replacement. original steering wheel and shift knob in good condition. fuel gauge and speedo are inoperable, i suspect the level sender and cable, but have not had any time to invest. I assume the car had been sitting for sometime until recently, so it would be a good idea to go through everything. Door windows operate, but need some assistance going up and down, a common problem with 912s. At some point a modern radio and speakers were installed. Glass is all in good crack-free condition. The motor #743304 and carbs are said to have been recently rebuilt. Motor runs well and pulls strong with no smoke. Transmission shifts through all gears with no grinding. Suspension could use refreshing with shocks and bushings. It drives OK as-is, but i would replace these sometime soon. This is a No Reserve auction, so it will sell to the highest bidder. I can assist with international buyers and have sold cars overseas before. I require a non-refundable $500 deposit within 24hrs out auction end. Please only bid if you intend to purchase. In you need more info or photos feel free to contact me, but please do so before auction end. I have the car for sale locally as well, so i reserve the right to end the auction early at anytime. over 170 photos available here: 1965 Porsche 912 450597 On Feb-10-13 at 18:42:55 PST, seller added the following information: This 912 has the optional 5-speed gearbox.
