Vehicle Detail

The Audi 4000 quattro is one of my favorite cars. The styling is understate and pleasing. The driving dynamics and capabilities of this car was unmatched during its days...and still is quit capable by today's standards. What really bonds a driver with a Audi 4000 quattro though, is the way the car communicates with its pilot and the confidence that it instills in you. The 2.2L 5 cylinder engine, when in good health(yes they will last over 300k miles and virtually indestructible but a 300k mile engine is not going to have the gut of a lower milage one) are strong off the line and pulls nicely to 110mph. The 5 speed manual transmission and rear differential gearing are well suited to the characteristic of this engine. One of the charm of this car is that it allows you to drive it at 10/10 and fell completely confident doing so. History of this vehicle: I purchased this vehicle in September of 2012 after seeing it listed on Audifans.com. It was advertised as a rust free example, meticulously maintained and in great shape. The owner stated that everything works! As we know, many things such as the door handle, a/c, cruise control, door lock etc, are areas of concern. I paid the full asking price of $3750 for it, flew up to Bayfield Colorado and drove it back to California. I have over $7000 into this vehicle(see details below)s and have only driven it a few hundred miles since bringing it back(I had 4 cars and this was not my daily driver). It has been smogged and registered in California. I am selling due to move. - Averaged 27mpg on the trip doing 70-80mph - As the previous owner stated, EVERYTHING WORKS on this car! - The car was in great shape and drove very well. - He kept all service records of the car ( over 1 inch thick of records documenting all the work performed and milage at which they were performed). Approx $8000 worth of receipts for the past miles. -The vehicle performed well on the drive but I did noticed a few items that I have since addressed and are detailed below. I have performed over $3000 on work on it since bringing it back. Details below. - 4 NEAR NEW SNOW TIRES MOUNTED AND BALANCED ON ANOTHER SET OF RONALS ARE INCLUDED. - Roof rack and bike attachments are included - Custome fit car cover included - Integrated fog lights into front bumper grill and turned on with factory fog light switch on dash cover. - The engine DOES NOT clack (lifter noise) on start up even after sitting for weeks. Previous owner stated the lifters and camshaft(by Blau) were replaced during previous timing belt job. Exterior: - Beautiful Zermatt Silver exterior. No signs of rust besides minor surface on nuts and bolts. No dents, no dings. A few stone chips. Vehicle was professionally repainted and with clear coat(like this when I bought it). There is no evidence of this car having been into a major accident. I suspect the car was repainted due to the failure of the clear coat-most clear coats on these cars start to fad or peel by now. Interior: - Seats are in great shape. Minor wear and slight deformation on entry side of driver's seat but as you can see in the picture, it is still very presentable. Carpet and floor mats are very clean and in very good condition. - Minor tear on passenger rear corner of headliner. Small - Everything works. - Yes A/C is cold and has been converted to 134A. I used it across Arizona and the Mojave Desert and was surprised at how much it was able to cool down the 100degree air. As we know the a/c system on these cars are not known for their efficiency even when new. Mechanical: Engine is one of the stronger 5 cylinders that I have driven. Has very good low end torque and revs freely towards redline. Transmission shifts nicely. Differential locks work(both settings=center and rear) Work that I performed: - New front brake pads and rotors - New front wheel bearings (2) - New O34EFI Density transmission mounts - New O34EFI Density front strut mounts - New Bilstein HD(yellow) front struts ( rear ones are Turbo Boge and fairly new). I replaced the front struts after discovering that the passenger side strut mount was damaged from improper installation and figured while I am at it, I might as well replace the struts. The old ones were perfectly fine. - New front control arm assemblies (both). Old ones were fine and again, while I was at it, might as well get it done. - New front ball joints ( because I am doing the control arms) - New front tie rods ( because I am in there already) - New voltage regulator for the alternator ( charging voltage dropped to 12V in the Mojave Desert but luckily it stayed that way and later found the bushing in the voltage regulator was on its last leg) - New O34EFI short shift kit. New bushing for shift rod - Redline rear differential fluid. Transmission fluid was just done - 10w-60 Redline full synthetic engine oil with OEM oil filter. Previous owner used full synthetic oil for the past 60k miles. - New sparkplugs, distributor cap, distributor rotor - New ignition coil ( just because) - Alignment Parts RECENTLY replaced by previous owner: - Full catback exhaust system with original exhaust system. - New timing belt, waterpump, drive belts, front seals - Newer Pirelli tires (4) - All the subframe bushings were replaced with Density bushings - Rear control arm bushings replaced - Rear brakes at 50% - Brake fluid flushed and tested for water content= good Noteable items replaced in the past few years: - Clutch assembly - CV boots - A/C system Please remember that this is a 27 year old car and even though it is one of the better examples around, it is not trailer queen. Please have realistic expectations. This is a driver's car and will provide its next owner with many more years of joy. I can be reached at 510-717-3003
