AUCTION ENDS THURSDAY AFTERNOON, JANUARY 31st This is an extremely clean 1996 VW Passat TDI with the legendary 1.9L "1Z" TDI engine and 5-speed manual Transmission. This is an extremely tight and solid car that has always been very well cared for and is in near mint condition overall with nearly 100% easy highway commuter miles. The engine is very strong and doesnt smoke or make any strange noises. The transmission shifts perfect and the clutch is in excellent condition. The car drives excellent. As you can tell from all the pictures, this is a very clean car. It it set up to be towed behind a motorhome, RV, or whatever youd like to tow it with, so just add your own Roadmaster tow bar and youre good to go! I am a VW TDI admirer/enthusiast and this has been my very own personal vehicle since June of 2011. I bought it from Durant Toyota where the original owner had traded it in on a brand new car. So the only owners of this car have been the original owner (who bought it from Charles Maund VW in Austin), and myself. The original Charles Maund sticker is still on the back of the car. This car has always lived in Weatherford, Texas (just west of Fort Worth) and the mileage has always been easy highway commuter miles. I have put about 20k miles on the car myself during my ownership. Ive traveled all over Texas as well as into Oklahoma and Arkansas on several occasions, and this car has always performed flawlessly. I brought my wife and our little boy along for a few of these trips, and I never hesitated for a second about taking off for anywhere I needed to go no matter what. A big part of the reason I have so much faith in this car is because of the way Ive had it serviced. I use a local mechanic who specializes in TDIs and anything this car has ever needed has been taken care of properly, along with a few practical upgrades along the way. Here is a partial list of some of the upgrades and maintenance done: July 2011 - Evacuated and recharged the A/C; Instrument cluster rebuilt October 2011 - Removed and cleaned intake manifold, replaced intake manifold gasket; Installed EGR block-off plate kit from Diesel Geek (no more carbon build-up in the intake manifold and slightly increased boost pressure); Replaced oil pan gasket; Oil change (only VW Synthetic used); Fuel filter changed; Vacuum line replaced; Turbo waste gate repaired November 2011 - Kerma TDI custom tune installed (better fuel economy, increased power); Thermostat replaced; All 4 glow plugs replaced; Cleaned brake switch; Replaced coolant temperature sensor March 2012 - Oil change; Fuel filter change August 2012 - VW OEM Corrado 15" steel wheels with Kumho Platinum tires mounted and balanced (huge improvement in handling, highway manners, and ride comfort); Four wheel alignment; Front turn signals replaced and OEM-style fog lamps installed (fog lamps not hooked up); All window tint removed and replaced with high performance film (15% rear and 30% sides) October 2012 - Oil change; Fuel filter change I have more records than this, but these things are the most interesting and major. The timing belt was last changed about 5k miles before I got the car so it still looks new even now. The buyer of this car will also receive: - Four original 14" steel wheels with plastic wheel covers and Pirelli tires (40% tread life remaining, but starting to dry out) - Factory parts to reinstall EGR valve if desired - Pioneer CD changer (controller is still in the center console and all wiring is intact, I only took it out to have more trunk space) - Factory lower bumper grille that was removed in order to install the Roadmaster tow bar brackets (brackets do stay with the car, so youll just need your own tow bar if you want to tow the car. It tows very easily!) The interior is in immaculate condition. Everything looks great and all the upholstery is in excellent condition with no stains or tears anywhere. All the power options works great except the front passenger window doesnt work. The A/C is cold and the Heat is hot, although you have to drive the car for a while to get the A/C to blow extremely cold or the heat to get really hot. No strange smells, just very clean and well kept. Never smoked in! I included a picture of the "business end" of the original cigarette lighter to prove this. The exterior is just as nice. No evidence of any previous accidents or fender benders. Paint shines excellent. No rust anywhere at all - top or bottom (always a Texas car). Car looks phenomenal. You may find a tiny paint chip, door ding, or scratch, but this car is in great shape and looks beautiful! One tiny rock chip at the very top of the windshield and a very small paint nick on the drivers rear bumper corner. This isnt a showroom perfect car, but for the age and miles I think it has been extremely well preserved! This car is ready to be driven anywhere you want to take it. If youd like to fly in and drive it home, Ill personally bring it to you at the airport when you arrive.
