We have here a car Consumer Reports called the greatest sport sedan ever made. And some would argue it's never been improved upon. This is the 2003 BMW 530i. Superlative handling, performance, safety and reliability, the 530i makes every other daily car dull. I bought this example in September 2010 at almost 90,000 all highway miles. It hadn't even had its first major service, as the car tells you when it's ready. Since I've had it, the usual repairs have come up: I've replaced the entire coolant system, front strut bushings, rear sway bars, valve cover gaskets and front brakes. It has a two year old battery, new vapor barrier on passenger side and upper intake boots. Synthetic oil since new, it's not due for new oil for 3,000 miles and not due for a major service till 152,000 miles. It currently has 105,572 miles. I have paperwork on all repairs and services and all manuals. I have two rechargeable keys and the valet key. It's powered by the fantastic m52 3 liter engine, an inline 6 that belts out 225 rear wheel drive horses with 220 ft/lbs of torque, going 0-60 in 7.6 secs. The transmission is the Steptronic Automatic, which allows for standard automatic shifting, Sport mode shifting and fully manual clutchless shifting as well. Automatic Traction Control and Dynamic Stability Control keep the rubber to the road and power brakes with ABS hauls it down safely. This list of standard trim includes power windows, power brakes, ABS, ATC, DSC, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo with CD changer in the dash, power moon roof, keyless entry, integrated alarm, cruise control, power tilt steering wheel with stereo, cruise and bluetooth controls, wood grain trim, dual power seats, two cup holders, a tool box in the trunk and even a chargeable flashlight in the glove box! This beauty comes with two option packages, the Premium and Cold Weather packages, which include integrated garage door openers, automatic rain sensors, automatic rear view mirror, eight function computer, leather trim on shift knob, Montana leather upholstery, heated seats and high pressure headlight cleaners. Also comes with beautiful upgraded rims, 19" style 65 chrome wheels (showing some rash though) that make its profile pop and improves the handling, makes it handle like a sports car. Standard sound system also has the optional multi CD changer in the trunk, and I added a third cup holder under the arm rest. Everything works, including every pixel in the dash, but two things I would do if I were keeping the car: fuel pumps can fail on these cars around this mileage though they last to 150,000 miles, and one of the fog lights is hazy inside: still works but it's hazy. It's a ten year old car so expect some road rash as indicated in the pictures. You'll see a key scratch along the passenger side door. You'll find some buffable scratches on the trunk. There are a couple of recent stains on the trunk bed I found out about too late: the panels are easily replaced though. The frame of the driver seat needs some attention. None of these things would keep me from taking this car right now coast to coast. I'm the second owner and would love to find a good home for this great car. It's up for auction with a very low reserve. I need to get it sold as I've already bought the next car, a 540i from the same year (I just had to have it in a V8 with a manual!).
