Vehicle Detail

HERE IS A VERY NICE 1956 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL MARK II COUPE THAT IS IN GREAT MOSTLY ORIGINAL SHAPE, WITH ONLY 38,890 MILES ON THE CLOCK, BELIEVED TO BE ORIGINAL. RUNS/DRIVES EXCELLENT, WAITING FOR A NEW OWNER TO CRUISE THE HIGHWAY!Please e-mail me with questions or to set up an inspection to see the car in person.AUCTION MAY BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME. The Continental Mark II StoryThe Continental Mark II was the elite automobile of the 1950s' rich and famous: Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Louie Prima, Dwight Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, Spike Jones, Nelson Rockefeller, Henry J. Kaiser, Howard Johnson, the Shah of Iran, and many other celebrities owned them. The Mark II wasn't made by Lincoln, but by the short-lived Continental Division of the Ford Motor Company. Its general manager was William Clay 'Bill' Ford, son of Edsel Ford and grandson of Henry Ford.Fact: there never was a model designated as a Lincoln or Continental Mark I.The Mark II's sticker price was $10,400, twice the price of the 1956 Lincoln. Much of the car was assembled by hand and Ford claimed it lost $1,000 on each Mark II it sold. The unprofitable Mark II and the Continental Division were discontinued after Ford went public in 1956, even though these cars brought people into showrooms to buy other Ford products.Ford originally planned to build about 2,000 Mark IIs a year for five years. 2,550 Mark IIs were built during the 1956 model year (June 1955 through September 1956) and 446 (including 2 convertibles) during the 1957 model y ear (October 1956 through May 1957) for a total of 2,996 Mark IIs. About 1,500 Mark IIs are still in existence. (About half are roadworthy) Their current market value ranges from $15,000 to $100,000, depending on condition. (Although some have sold in the low-to-mid $100s) This particular 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II came out of upstate NY. It has been garaged in climate controlled building since the 1980s. Purchased from a classic car museum where it resided for the last few years. It has been completely gone through mechanically. Brakes overhauled, full tune-up, fluid changes, ignition, etc etc. to be put back on the road and runs/drives fantastic! This is basically a very original car with one older repaint on a beautifully straight body.Mechanically it fires right up and sounds great along with the stock exhaust system. Transmission is solid and shifts good through all the gears without any noises or grinding. Now as for driving the car, i've taken it out mostly around the neighborhood here and there for a few functions, every once in a while I take it to a local cruise night. You can cruise with it on the highway all day and I would trust it to drive anywhere at the drop of a hat.Interior is basically all original from what I know of the history of the car. Seats are very nice with no rips. Door panels in good shape. Dash presentable although some areas are sun warped. Carpet is old but presentable. Kick panels are worn. Headliner in good shape with some discoloration and staining but no tears that I saw (rear passenger side sail panel needs some work). Steering wheel good, with pitted chrome. Overall fairly presentable for a very original driver.Underside has a SOLID frame. Floorboards look to have been previously patched some years ago with fiberglass. They are solid overall but work could have been done a little nicer. Solid trunk with some evidence of prior patching. (again these cars were basically built BY HAND back in the 50s so this is fairly common, if you find one out there at all!)The old girl is NOT perfect by any means of course so please keep that in mind when bidding. Paint is in fairly good shape and cleans up very nice for a presentable driver, but was NOT a $10k paintjob so please keep that in mind (looks good from 10-15 feet but up close has some issues of course like various spots where chips were touched up, some small dings, etc as you would expect). Couple of body panels could use minor adjustment to fit perfectly. Not working: rear power windows (one side works but window off track, other side needs motor rebuilt), horn, clock, couple of the smaller gauges work on/off at times, radio, perhaps a bulb or two may need replacing here and there. One hubcap missing "spokes" in the center. Bumpers are presentable but do have pitting and some small dents, as does some of the grill chrome. Small crack in rear driver's side window glass. Carburetor could use a rebuild down the line.. Please note, I cannot remember every single issue with the car, nor do I know everything wrong with it, as it is after all nearly 60 years old so keep that in mind.If you just want a GREAT LOOKING ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING DRIVER needing some tlc, this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some considerable investment or total restoration to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO.Auction Rules:We would like to encourage you to Please follow our rules of the auction and refrain from creating your own!
