Vehicle Detail

1979 Porsche 928 5-speed. Miles are over. v-8 Body is excellent. Many good parts. Drivetrain is complete. All glass is good. Engine is there but does not run. Needs engine replaced. Have clean and clear Florida title. This could be yours for only $928! Its a real chick magnet once it gets fixed up. Plus since its so hard to work on that once people copy your idea they wonder how you did it. Then on top of that you get to say you drive a porsche. I get people all of the time coming up to me just to chat. If Youre not the social type, it can help you break the ice. My dumb neighbor called the mayors office and reported me to code enforcement they said it has to be tagged and in operating condition. It Can be turned into a cool track car. Great father/son project. I included a pic of what it could look like when finished. Miles are over 100,000. It is a 5 speed manual transmission. I really plan to make this into a track car and I have removed the the interior except for the front seats and the steering wheel. The reason for this is I plan on having the entire interior soda blasted. After that I was going to repaint the interior with with a high quality paint. The best would be powder coating. I would then proceed to have a roll cage welded to the interior and have it done so that it can be raced as a rally car. I also plan on adding aluminum door panels to the interior. Also I wanted it to look like a track car so I was going to mount the gauges to the center console in aluminum housing. This would also be less expensive than trying to piece together all of the original interior parts. Even if you can find the interior parts they are expensive. I removed the gas tank as I was going to put a fuel cell and its place. Jegs.com has them. New fuel lines were also going to be built. For this I planned on using a hydraulic hose with a burst pressure of over 22000 psi. It would seem like overkill but then It would not break open in a crash and catch fire. I have cleaned the brake caliper cylinders and the brakes worked very good. The power windows works fine. But some wiring needs to be done and switches for them. I planned on using toggle switchea is in the center console for everything. Again adhering into the rally racer look and feel. All of the glass in the car is in good condition. However, I would soda blast everything and remove the glass. Removing all of the interior carefully was a lot of work but necessary as this makes the car lighter and faster. I did not keep the interior pieces. I planned on changing the seats too as they are heavy. Now getting to the engine compartment. I am sure the engine can be fixed however it must be pulled out to do this. And while you are in there fixing engine you might as well do all of the engine seals so that doesn't leak oil. The transmission seem to be fine except for Down shifting into second was a little tricky. I think the best route is to buy an engine that already runs and pop it in. Now for the exterior the body is in great shape. There is 1 little dent near the rear quarter panel passenger side but can be fixed easily. I would also soda blast the whole body. The action of the soda blasting on the metal preserves the metal for a few weeks from rusting. Since the body was hot dipped galvanized from the factory, there is hardly any corrosion or noticeable rust. There is no Rust that is gone all the way through. The rest of the car is made from aluminum. And aluminum lasts forever. I was then going to paint the car with powder coating but I learned that it does not hold well to UV light. So I decided to go with a flat black paint Then put clear coat over that. I would say that as far as restorations go this is for an advanced mechanic. All sizes are metric on this vehicle. Special tools must be purchased to work on certain things for the engine. There is a 2000 page manual that can be downloaded. It will show you everything on the 928 and procedures and specs are described in detail on how to fix it. It is like a haynes manual on steroids. I have included a picture of what I wanted to look like when done. When is did run it got up to 145 mph on bad tires. The handling was amazing and it felt safer then other cars I have ridden in at that speed.
