Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1946 Packard Clipper 4 dr sedan. This was the first year of production after WWII. Even at almost 70 years old, this is a pretty nice car with loads of potential for someone with the time and money or skills to put into it. I bought this car from a nice old lady locally. She was married to the county sheriff here and it was his patrol car back in the late 40's-early 50's. It still has the factory spotlight mounted on the driver's side pillar. After he died, it just sat in her barn for the next 30 years. I was amazed to fnd how solid this car is after sitting so long. It has very little rust at all besides surface rust. It has a few holes (about the size of a dime) under the doors. Floor boards are solid front to back. You can stand on the fenders and dance on them without them so much as budging. I shot it with primer just to prevent any further rust since I pulled it from the barn. It has a couple of small dents on the rear fenders. Nothing that can't be pulled right out with a couple of taps with a hammer from behind them. Needs windows on all 4 doors. Glass is there but is clouding from age and a couple are cracked (but are all there). 3 out of 4 still roll up and down easily. All 4 vent windows open and close. Front and rear windshield are in great shape. Pop up fresh air vent works. Another shock to me... The engine runs after 30 years of sitting. The gas tank is missing. But after cleaning the points and pouring a lil gas in the carb, it fired up and runs smooth. Trans seems to shift fine. Car is not driveable. The fuel tank and lines are gone. The master cylinder for the brakes will need to be completely replaced. The interior had been a condo for squirrels, it seemed by the shredded seat upholstery and the amount of acorns I cleaned out of it. But I do have the original seats (front and rear) and they will go with the car. I have every piece of chrome trim that goes to the car and emblems. I have the original glass tail light lenses (in excellent condition). I even have the original gas cap that went to the car that has Packard stamped on it. This is just a really neat piece of auto history that I couldn't pass up, given how good its condition is. I just bit off more than I could chew at the moment and I would rather see it go to someone that can do something with it than to see it just sit in my driveway wasting away. This car deserves better than that. I have a clear title to the car. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm no expert on these cars but I will try to answer if I can.
