Vehicle Detail
1970 Porsche 914 Hello, and welcome to my eBay auction. For sale today is a very nice and original first year RUST FREE matching numbers 1970 Porsche 914 1.7. It is finished in its factory orange and has the black basketweave vinyl seats. This is the early configuration interior where only the driver’s seat is adjustable and the passenger seat is fixed in its position. This 914 is totally stock. It is still equipped with its factory fuel injection and steel wheels and hubcaps. It even maintains its original radio. I purchased the car from an estate. It had been off the road since the early 90s. It was kept dry and inside, but it needed some loving. I liked how original the little car was. Original and straight. The paint shined beautifully with a wash and one coat of wax. After buying a battery I was excited to learn that all the lights worked, the wipers and radio too! First I removed the gas tank and sent it out to be reconditioned. I got lucky and found some records in the car that lead me to the local mechanic that had maintained the car all those years before. After speaking to Al at A&P Specialties I towed it out there to get all the bugs worked out. First, I had him check the compression to make sure we had a good engine and we did! It has excellent compression in every cylinder. Next, I brought him the fuel tank to install. We quickly realized that the original fuel pump was bad and with his instance we sent the original part to California to be rebuilt. He explained to me that since it was important to me to keep the fuel injection and the originality of the car, only a factory fuel pump would do. We ended up replacing many of the fuel lines too, but when we finished it ran flawlessly. I received my $1,250 bill and was on my way! Of course the car still needed some sorting. New tires were first on the list as the old ones were checked pretty badly. The carpet was also worn and tired and the passenger seat cushion needed a new panel. So after a trip to my upholster, and another hefty bill, the car was ready to go and be enjoyed. The car is really quick. I have driven lots of 914s over the years and there is just something right with this car. It runs fantastically. It starts instantly with no smoke. I think it left one drip of oil in my shop but I’m not even sure about that. The transmission takes a minute to get used to, but it works like the good ones do and only grinds when you downshift hard into 2nd gear so.. I don’t do thatJ The clutch is excellent, with just an inch of free-play at the top. It drives and stops straight and true down the road with no odd problems. The “Hell Hole” battery tray area looks rust free and the tray has been replaced. The Targa top is in excellent condition. The horn is not working at the moment but I am going to try and figure it out. The emergency brake sticks too but it is also on my list to fix. If you are someone that missed the opportunity to buy a 911 or 912 before the prices went crazy don’t make the same mistake with the 914. Prices are on the rise with these little underappreciated cars. The oldest and most original will be the first to get hot. This first year example will be hard to beat as a fun investment. I am setting the reserve low and I expect the car to sell the first go around. As a matter of fact many of my cars don’t make the full 7 days. Emails asking me to reveal my reserve will be ignored. I only talk money over the phone so give me a call. Also, zero and negative feedback bidders will need to contact me BEFORE BIDDING. Otherwise, I will cancel your bid. If you are new to eBay just give me a shout and I will walk you through the process. Thanks again for reading my long winded description and HAPPY BIDDING!! Justin 503-969-5127
