Helping a friend sell their 1985 El Camino. The title is a clear South Carolina Title that has 165,000 on it. The vehicle was inherited and when they were at SC DMV they were unsure of how many miles were on it while standing in line and just said 165,000. This is unfortunate since I truly believe the car has never rolled over and the 58,978 to be the original miles; however, that is now a mute point as the title has 165,000 on it. I have been in the car business for over 20 years and I can attest that once you see her, you will agree that there is little liklihood that the odomoeter has rolled over. I checked with a Chevy "motor head" and he said that on 5 digit odometers, when they rolled over the digits wouldn't align themselves perfectly and after he looked at the odometer, he said that in his opinion it was original miles. All that said, I am selling it for her and it can be seen in person with advance notice. I had the car picked up from her house on a rollback and once we got it back to our store, it started up with little more than a jump box after being garaged for hte past year and ahlaf. The bed and hood has been repainted. There is no visible rust. Our Service Director said it needed about $400 owrth of routine general preventive maintenance and reccomended draining the gas and chagning the sparks plugs. He also stated that the power windows did not work but was sure they could be repaired or the window motors replaced. It could also be a fuse. The interior of the car is clean and there are no tears also lending support that this is not a 165,000 mile car. Buyer buys with full disclosure that the title says 165,000 but that the seller does not believe the car to be a TMU car. However, I am unsure what , if anything, can be done about the title mileage.
