Vehicle Detail
Suicide Door Thunderbird in very good condition. Always a Santa Clara County car. Runs very well. The car feels like the miles state. Very tight and fast. The body, chrome, and interior are excellent. The not so good news: water puddled in one corner of the roof at the trunk while under cover. It rotted out that area as shown in pic. Also, needs paint but it's hard to tell in the pics. There are a few other areas of the vinyl top damaged but much less so. Part of the dual exhaust needs replacing, also. The interior is amazing. The driver's seat was replaced due to a tear but not wear. No cracks in the interior. The engine compartment looks as it should for this low mileage car and is mostly original. Power comes from a 429 with a 4 barrell. This is a great driver that could be show car with a new top and paint. Options: Power windows, steering and brakes, driver's seat, tilt steering (with swing away but it doesn't always "swing away"), cruise control, AC (looks like it's all there but not operational),. On Jan-13-13 at 09:23:51 PST, seller added the following information: 1968 Suicide Door Thunderbird in very good condition and has always been a California Bay Area car. I bought the car from the original family. The car runs well and feels like the miles state. Very tight and fast. The body, chrome, and interior are excellent. The car starts easily every time. The not so good news: water puddled in one corner of the roof at the trunk while under cover. It rotted out that area as shown in pic. The car needs to be repainted but it's hard to tell in the pics. The paint has thinned in some areas and part of the car was painted incorrectly. The color isn’t quite right and the paint used is not of a good quality. I was told that the original owner had some bad parking lot dings and tried to address it himself and used the wrong paint. Again, hard to see in the pics but I want to give full disclosure to those interested. There are a few other areas of the vinyl top damaged but much less so. Part of the dual exhaust needs replacing. It looks like just one side needs a new muffler and pipe but I have not had this issue inspected. The headlight covers do not open by themselves but they do always stay down. If you are familiar with Ford vacuum operated headlight covers, you know how the vacuums can leak and the covers do not stay closed. This is not the issue here. The headlights come on but you must manually open the covers. I have only driven the car once at night and it was easy to open and close the covers manually. I'm just glad they do not "leak" open! The owner’s manual shows how the headlight covers open manually so I do not think it damages the covers to open them this way. The sequential, rear turn lights are operational. There are 3 bars of light that work sequentially but the bars on both ends tend to stay on and not blink like other two. The heater was disconnected by the previous owner. It may be a heater core issue. The fan works and the AC is intact but not operable. The front power windows work but the rear does not. The interior is amazing. The dash, headliner, carpet, package shelf, center console, steering wheel and seats are all in excellent condition. The driver's seat was replaced due to a tear but not wear. The vinyl grain on the replaced seat cover is not a perfect match. It's a bit smoother and less textured but this issue is not easily noticeable unless you look for it. No cracks in the interior. The radio and power antenna work and the interior lights work well. The car is equipped with tilt and “swing away” steering wheel. The wheel tilts by gently pushing back the turn signal stalk. The tilt works well but the swing away feature that operates when you open the driver’s door, does not work often. The engine compartment looks as it should for this low mileage car and is mostly original. Power comes from a 429 with a 4 barrel. The distributor, wires, spark plugs and fuel filter are all new. The brakes work well and tire tread is decent. Being a 60's Ford, I thought the T-Bird would handle badly and be ungainly but I am impressed how well it plants itself on the road and is easy in the curves to maneuver. This is a great driver that could be show car with a new top and paint. Options Power Windows (front windows are operational) Power Steering and Brakes Power Driver's Seat Tilt-Away Steering (with swing away but it doesn't always "swing away") Cruise control AC with Automatic Climate Control (AC looks like it's all there but not operational) Rear Defogger Power antenna Remote trunk release (button in glove box) Overhead warning lights (seatbelts, door ajar, low fuel) Split bucket seats with center console and storage
