Vehicle Detail
1999 Ford Ranger EV. This is a factory produced electric vehicle built by Ford. This is NOT a conversion! Body is in good condition but the passenger door was banged into by someone in a parking lot. I pulled the dent out a bit but it's still a little rough. The rest of the body and interior are in great shape. The tires are brand new - probably 200 miles on them. There is a cover for the bed but it's not on it right now. The truck goes up to about 80 mph - so driving on the freeway is not a problem. It has NiMH batteries - the best for this vehicle. It gets about 52-55 miles on a charge supposedly. It really depends on how you drive it. If you only drove on the freeway, you'd get half or so of that. It seems like it goes forever if you drive it in town, flat areas with lots of stop and go. I've had it about 5 years. It charges in about 5 hours or so. It would be best if you were using this to go about 30 miles per day or so. You don't want to run this thing down to empty if you can help it. Obviously it's very clean and never requires a tune up or oil change. It never requires you to stop and get gas, just plug it in when you get home. I'm having an issue with it right now. It's not always charging - in fact, most of the time it doesn't anymore. I don't know what the issue is with it but the only chance I have to fix it is to have it towed to Sacramento - an hour away - and back. There is a place there that can service it. We have a new baby and I don't want to deal with it. It has been a great vehicle but there have been some issues - water pump and an electrical plug went bad so the wiring harness had to be replaced. It's super fun to drive - imagine and 80 mph golf cart. Lots of torque and quick. It takes a bit to get up to highway speed but 0-40 is pretty peppy. I can't think of what else to say about it. Just write me if you have any questions. This vehicle would be ideal for someone that can work on it or that lives near Sacramento or someplace else that can do service on it as needed. On Dec-30-12 at 09:26:25 PST, seller added the following information: **I was looking over the service records last night and remembered two issues that I've had for so long that I forgot about them. 1. The blend door for the vent system clicks. It's been a problem for years and I stopped noticing the sound but It's almost a constant clicking under the dash. The vents seem to work ok but to fix the issue, you'd have to take out the entire dash = expensive. 2. The service light stays on because of a "BCM problem" according to the records. They said that the issue doesn't effect the performance or life of the vehicle. They said most people just ignore it and don't fix it - it's pretty common. I've put 2,000 miles on it (I was told about it at the end of Oct 2011) and I haven't had any issues.** And there are actually 700 miles on the tires. On Dec-30-12 at 12:04:29 PST, seller added the following information: One last thing to add: I bought this truck for $30,000 (not including tax and license) 5 years ago.On Dec-30-12 at 20:21:27 PST, seller added the following information: Sorry to keep adding on but someone asked some questions so I want to clarify. There is an intermittent problem in the vehicle charging system. Sometimes when I plug it in 10% maybe of the time, the vehicle charges and it's fine. Most of the time, I can't get the charger to start up - normally you'd hear a fan running and you know it's charging. Right now, the vehicle is fully charged- or close to it and it runs perfectly. I drove it up the street yesterday just to make sure there were no issues still as it has been sitting a couple of months. I don't drive it because I don't want to wear the battery pack down - it's not good for the batteries not to be fully charged for a long period of time. Normally, you're supposed to keep it on the charger all the time but it's not charging right so I don't. The charger is a special charger that only fits these vehicles. I wired a 240 dryer plug on it and plugged it in in my garage - I'm pretty certain the issue is in the truck not the wall unit. You have to use one of these charges to charge the vehicle. It can't just be plugged in at someone's house without the charger - which could be taken with you and plugged into someones dryer like 240 plug.
