1970 Ford Galaxie XL Convertible Hello, and thanks for checking out my auction. On eBay today is a really cool vintage Ford Galaxie XL Convertible. It is finished in its original white although the paint is not original. It has black vinyl interior and a black power covertable top. The car is in good “driver” quality condition and I would consider it to be cancer free. There is some orange colored oxidation here and there in the nooks and crannies, but I found NO rust bubbling anywhere on the vehicle. The XL starts easily and runs excellent with no smoking or leaking of any kind. The motor sounds healthy and there is no ticking or knocking at any RPM. The transmission shifts perfectly and the brakes stop straight and true. The car drives straight down the road with no pulling or wandering. Mechanically this car is very sound, it is also very solid.. The doors and the trunk and hood line up well and all shut properly. The power top works well up and down and the headlight doors work exactly as they should. The paint is in really good shape. There are no mismatched panels or different shades of white. I would say the paint job is less than 5 years old and was done by a quality painter. The only drawbacks to this car are cosmetic and wouldn’t be difficult to fix. I will list the issues. 1. The top is still good but there is a tear in the inner seam where the back window zips in. The zipper seam needs to be re-stiched. There are also a couple pin holes that could be repaired as well. 2. The dash is cracked and has a cloth cover to hide it, but it really needs to be repaired or replaced. 3. The carpeting is loose in areas and needs to be re-glued. 4. The passenger rear quarter window is loose in its track. It goes up and down, but can be pulled up by hand. 5. The steering wheel is ugly in my opinion too. I have the original, but it needs to be cleaned up and installed. 6. The bumpers are straight, but there is some pitting in the chrome and a few small areas where the chrome has flaked off. 7. The car could use a serious professional detail to clean up the interior mechanism of the top. A couple hours with steel wool and a can of flat black spray paint would do wonders for it. All in all this is a really good start to a really cool vintage convertible. I am setting the reserve low and fully expect this XL to sell the first go around.
