Vehicle Detail
I have here a 1965 Pontiac Tempest Custom Convertible. It was originally white but was repainted red a few years ago. New tires, it runs but needs a new battery and muffler. I have not started it in 2 years and the gas is bad - it does turn over when a battery is hooked up. This car belonged to Bill York who worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for nearly 50 years. He drove the car to the speedway when he bought it new in March of 1965. He was in charge of handling the Rookie of the Year Trophy then and presented it in 1965 to Mario Andretti. He drove this car to the race that day. I have all the paperwork on the car including the invoice and owner manual with protect-o-plate. Vehicle comes with all the documentation I have as well as a 1966 Indianapolis 500 Parking pass found in the glovebox. There is a keychain and license plate frame from the original dealer as well as the 1965 Indiana plates that were on the car when new. There is some rust damage to the frame rails under the doors (this is a midwest car and is 47 years old) but I believe it could be repaired (see photos) but it probably needs a frame off restoration. The car could be restored, cloned into a GTO or driven as is (after fixing the muffler, replacing the battery and some attention to the frame). I started to do restoration work on he interior - the back seats are removed. The back seat covers are in great condition but the front seats will eventually need recovered. Door panels are rough as is carpet and the convertible top needs replaced. Original AM radio is included (works). Engine is clean, rear seats removed to show solid floor pan in the back though there is some rust under the front seats. Trunk compartment has surface rust and one patch panel (old). The body is solid and a good candidate for restoration. Power Steering, Power Brakes and Power Top. I hate to sell this car but we could use the money right now. Please email with any other questions - I will also give you my phone number if you would like to discuss the car. Car is 95% original and all the parts are there. It is being sold as is and is a great car to invest some time and money into - a real project. Buyer is responsible for transportation or the can can be picked up in Western Ohio (45869). This will be the lowest I will start this auction - if it does not sell this time then I will keep it. I am tired of low ball offers - so don't even try. Only bid if you want it because I have been burned by someone who bid and then offered a third of what they bid. Not cool! This car is well worth being restored and needs a good home - if you are not prepared for a car that needs work - don't bid. Thanks again for looking and good luck!
