Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1996 BMW K1100LT. This is a large, comfortable, and fast touring bike with the good reliability you'd expect from a BMW. This bike is offered with a low opening bid (as you can see) and no reserve. High bidder will get to ride this home. 44648 miles. These bikes regularly go for 500,000 miles, and often much more, so this one is just getting started. I've had the bike since about 2001 or so, and probably put on about 15,000 miles in that time. Bike has always been stored indoors. The bike has no known mechanical issues other than a minor oil leak from the transmission which drips very slowly near the kickstand. Otherwise in excellent mechanical condition; starts easily and runs great. It has a brand new front brake master cylinder, recently done fork seals, new battery, and upgraded engine coolant sensor (this can sometimes be a source of problems on this model; no issues since replacement). The bike has a few cosmetic issues. There are a few scratches here and there on the fairings. The right hand fairing has some more serious scratches and abrasions from a low-speed drop that the bike suffered during an urban intersection right-hand turn many years ago. This damage can be seen in the pictures. I have a replacement front (headlight) fairing section and also a right-side fairing section, both of which were purchased on eBay years ago, and are available to the high bidder for a reasonable additional cost. Both are in good-to-excellent used condition, and both will need to be painted as they are not color-matched to the bike. Also, the bike will need tires soon, but the ones on there now will get the high bidder home, anywhere in the country. Please see pictures of tires for details. Comes with BMW side cases. All the touring-related features originally furnished on this bike, such as ABS, heated handgrips, cassette/radio, electric windshield, hazard warning lights, dome light in fairing, coolant temp gauge, and fuel gauge are present, and in good working order. I love this bike. I paid $7,000 back in 2001 and felt the bike was worth every penny. To be honest I was quite surprised at the low numbers I saw when I started doing research on the current value of these bikes. But the bottom line for me is that, with a new kid in the family, I'm just not riding it much anymore. And so someone out there has the chance to get a very competent touring bike, which is actually also very sporty, for a real bargain price. This bike could be ridden home, no matter where the high bidder lives in the US. I am also possibly able to deliver it within a few hundred miles for a reasonable fee to cover time and mileage. Please contact me to discuss this if you are interested in this option. Please let me know if additional pictures are required, and feel free to ask any questions. Once again... NO RESERVE. High bidder rides this ready-to-go, awesome touring bike home! Thanks SATURDAY MORNING UPDATE I have had some requests for pictures of the extra fairing panels, so I am posting a few pictures of those. Please look for them in the pictures section. I have also had some questions about the oil leak; specifically whether it is possible to see where it is coming from and if it is perhaps from a crack in a case or housing. I have just taken some pictures of this area, the underside of the transmission. I am posting one picture taken as the bike was when I went to it, in other words before any clean-up and showing the leak. I am also posting another picture after wiping the area clean. It is rather obvious to see that the leak is coming from the mating area between the main transmission case and the transmission rear cover. It appears to be a gasket problem. There is no indication at all of a cracked case or anything more serious than a weeping gasket. Once again, this leak is very slow and it has never been so serious that it bothered me very much. I had a question about whether the tires would get the bike back to Georgia. As I mentioned in the ad, I feel the tires are good enough to drive the bike anywhere in the country, once. And I have had some questions about shipping. It turns out that I have a friend who works for one of the country's premier motorcycle shippers, called Relentless Transport. I have received the following quotes to ship this bike: Less than 1500 miles from zip code 87529, $550.00; More than 1500 miles from zip code 87529, $600.00. These prices are apparently a bit of a "friend-deal" because I know the guy. I am told that one would expect to pay about $120 more if going through a shipping broker. Thanks!
