Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1959 Chevrolet El Camino. This car doesn't need much to be fully restored. As it sits you don't even need to finish it, it can be enjoyed as is. Ive been driving it around a little bit while the weather is still nice. This car was an ongoing restoration by an elderly man who recently passed away. The car mostly just sat indoors. Maybe driven a couple times a year. Drivetrain: I was told the original 283 was replaced with a 327. If I can find some casting numbers on the block I will try to verify this. The car starts remarkably easy and has good power. The car does have power steering which works but it is a little whiny. Drum brakes all the way around and work fine with no noticeable pulling to one side or the other. Exterior: The cars body and paint is in great condition. You can see from the pictures that its highly reflective. The bed has a tinted bed liner sprayed in it. The rails that are attached to the top of the bed are obviously not original. Unfortunately the previous owner had to drill through the trim to attach them. I believe all the trim for the car is there and is in about as good of shape as you could find. No pitting or dents with high reflectivity. The bumpers look to be originals that were professionally restored. The front bumper I would rate a 9.5 out of 10 and the rear a 9. Interior: The front bench seat is out of a mid 2000s Chevy pick up truck and fits in the car nicely. The interior is 90% complete. Just needs some trim pieces finished off. Heater fan works, all vents seem to move fine. I dont know if the radio works as there are no speakers hooked up. For the bad about the car: -Passenger side of the car has some scrapes on the lower part of the car. See the pictures. No dents or dings on the rest of the car.-I can hear a tick from the top end of the motor. Sounds like a sticking lifter.-The car wont shut off from the ignition switch. You have to turn the key to off and then pull a wire out of a relay from under the hood for it to kill the ignition. Some of the under hood wiring has been replaced and the ignition wiring probably didn't get hooked back up properly.-I noticed a couple rust bubbles through the paint on the passenger side rear fender lip. I've included a picture of it. That is the only rust issue I've found on this car. I'm not familiar with them though and dont know their trouble spots so if there is a location you want me to check out and take pictures of I am more than happy to.-Ive already mentioned the aftermarket bed rail having to be drilled through the original trim.-The exhaust needs to be rehung or replaced as it has some overspray on it and is not professionally hung. I believe the original was just put back on so the car could be driven Had the car finished restoration I am assuming it would of been fully replaced.-Tires I am guessing were just temporary or used for rollers. They have ok tread but are a little dry rotted. If you need to have this car shipped. Please get shipping quotes and arrange shipping BEFORE bidding. A $500 deposit via Paypal due within 48 hours of auction end. With the remainder due before or at time of pickup via cash, cashiers check or wire transfer. Some of the extra parts that haven't been installed yet are the mirrors, door weatherstripping, extra material for the headliner, and door panels, window cranks and door handles. I will take some additional pictures of the undercarriage. On Nov-28-12 at 19:43:18 PST, seller added the following information: Clear title in my possession. This is a no reserve auction. If you have any questions about the car feel free to send me an Ebay message or you can call me at 801.369.2383.On Nov-30-12 at 14:47:29 PST, seller added the following information: I have uploaded a bunch of photos of the cars undercarriage, bottom of the doors, under the hood, and bottom of the tailgate to a photobucket account. You should be able to view them at this link http://s760.beta.photobucket.com/user/SnwMnkys/library/El%20Camino If you are not able to view them I can email them all to you as well. Everything appears very solid with zero to minimal rust. Some of the undercoating might be mistaken as rust in a couple of the pictures. The only area that might be questionable is the driver side seat pan.On Nov-30-12 at 14:48:53 PST, seller added the following information:
