Vehicle Detail

This is an exceptionally solid and well-maintained low-mileage 1983 Volvo 245 intercooled turbo with manual transmission, IPD sway bars, GT- style upper and lower chassis braces, and Bilstein shocks. I purchased it from the original owner’s mechanic in 2009 and am inserting his description of the car’s history and condition. There are very few manual transmission 245 turbos with such low mileage, comprehensive professional maintenance, and subtle but significant performance upgrades. ________________________________________________________________ Original Ad: This car has only 101,364 miles on it [now approx 110k]. It is in excellent mechanical condition and rust free. The original owner was a customer at my Volvo repair shop. He purchased the car through the European delivery system. I purchased the car from him in October 2002 when it had 95,000 miles on it. I have only driven it during the warmer months and stored it indoors during the winter. I bought the car mainly because of its solid floors and body and strove to keep it that way during the time I owned it. I had the car repainted because the original paint on the hood and roof was in poor condition. One small rust bubble about ¾ of an inch in diameter was cut out of right rear quarter panel and a steel patch welded in. It was the only rust spot on the car. Bumpers, trim, lights, etc. were all removed prior to repaint. I kept the color very close to original but used a Volvo color with just a little more red in it than the original color. I have made a couple of modifications since I bought it. I converted car from automatic to manual shift (M46 transmission). I removed the original oil cooled turbo and replaced with water cooled turbo from Volvo 940. I find this turbo spools up faster and has much less lag between shifts. I also added a factory intercooler. I have installed many new parts and add-ons to this car including but not limited to: Heater fan motor and resistor (Turbo) clutch kit Clutch cable Speedometer cable (needed to reach drive on M46 transmission) Rear crankshaft seal Overdrive seals Front engine oil seals Exhaust manifold gaskets Oxygen sensor 240 turbo exhaust kit (Genuine volvo kit) Timing belt Drive belts Waterpump Radiator Injector seals Cap, rotor, plug wires and plugs Main fuel pump Tank feed pump and sending unit Fuel pump relay Fuel filter KYB shocks Front and rear brake rotors and pads Handbrake shoes Motor mounts and transmission mounts New left and right tailgate wiring harnesses. Calibrated boost gauge Remote control central locking system Kenwood CD player Hella HE headlights The dash top has some cracks in it. The driver and passenger seat bottoms could use recovering. The carpet is somewhat faded. I removed the cracked front door map pockets. The top of the center console is cracked. This is probably one of the lowest mileage most structurally sound 240 turbos available anywhere. It has always been adult driven and never abused. All work described above has been done by professional Volvo mechanic. If you are interested in a turn-key 240 turbo driver, or a solid platform ready for your performance modifications, this is the car you want. When I purchased the car I had seller's shop add the following: IPD stabilizer bars front & rear Bilstein TC Struts & mounts Rebuilt York AC Compressor & clutch, Freon recharge All fluids replaced: oil (synthetic), trans (Redline MTL), diff, brake, coolant Since then I have added upper and lower GT-style chassis braces, Bilstein TC shocks, leather shift boot, cloth dash cover, and kenwood amp. I also replaced fuel accumulator, fuel pump relay, battery, and front rotors. All major work was performed by Volvo specialty shop The plastic console broke but I have a new one to replace it, along with the optional station wagon rear speakers and spare ECU and upgraded turbo wiring harness. The current harness is original but the car has been so well kept that it has not yet deteriorated. I have not driven it in winter and put less than 9,000 very easy miles on it. Unfortunately, it received two parking lot dents: one in the front right fender and one in the left rear quarter by spare tire well. Neither damaged the paint so I have not done anything, but both would be easy fixes. I've tried to show damage in pics. This is a great car and should go to someone who is going to drive it more. The intercooled turbo gives it plenty of get-up-and-go and the auto - to - manual conversion gives it an extra kick with slightly bigger rear end. Overdrive keeps highway rpms reasonable. IPD swaybars, Bilstein shocks, and chassis braces make it handle great without crossing the line into harshness. I shouldn’t be selling it, but I lost my garage access and don’t want this baby to spend the winter outside. Original Euro plate and Euro delivery key fob convey. No warrantees expressed or implied; no overseas bidders; I can help load, but shipping is buyer's responsibility; please don't bid if you can't buy Vehicle is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end auction early. Several local Volvo afficionados have expressed interest-- bid early and often to beat them out
