Vehicle Detail

This auction is for our vintage 1971 Jeepster Commando with a classic V6 Dauntless motor, a 3 speed AUTOMATIC transmission and 4 wheel drive. The 4X4 works well. We have owned the car for about 6 years and are only the second owners. The jeep had 28,020 miles on it when it was purchased by us in 2006. The vehicle currently has 44,025 miles. The jeep has clear Mass. title and current inspection sticker - good until 11/30/13. We are selling the Jeepster because we now have 4 vehicles (for 2 people!) and finally decided to reduce our "fleet" to three cars. The Jeepster includes the following: 4 Nokian snow tires (plus the spare), a 20 gallon gas tank (5 years old), a new exhaust (2 years old), new gaskets installed around the windows and doors (2 years ago), a new lockout hub (1 year ago), the original 2 seats and upholstery (never had a rear seat), all original jeep emblems, and also includes some misc. parts: manuals and a car cover barely used. The pollution pump has been disconnected, but the jeep still passes inspection every year as Mass. doesn't require emissions controls on cars from 1971. Also installed is an auxiliary heater from a Toyota Land Cruiser installed behind the front seats, and we had a door installed in the side of the factory heater to allow some cabin air to be recirculated (a conversion recommended by the Jeepster user forum), Included, but not installed: a Jeepster power brake booster (which will need rebuilding prior to installation), spare set of mats, repair manuals and some misc. parts. Condition: There is some body rust, which is inevitable for a car that hasn't been garaged for the six years we have owned it (like many people, our garage is dedicated to more important stuff like junk...). The inside of the rocker panels have rust (see last photo), and the panel below the rear door needs replacement. The tailgate had some rust which I repaired and painted on the outside, but not the inside. The rear deck has 2 small areas of rust-through and the underside has rust, but the frame looks solid to me. It had a hot oil treatment the year we bought it to inhibit rust progression. There is an issue with the left rear shock which needs to have the mount re-welded to the body or the shock may be broken. It bangs around when you go over bumps. The engine is strong, burns a little oil, we add a quart every couple of months, but nothing exceptional. We had a manual choke installed because the factory automatic one didn't work. Last spring the ignition switch stopped activating the starter so we had a starter button installed under the dash which works perfectly. The headliner is sound and un-cracked as is the dash cover. We have had misc. work done over the years (as well as all required maintenance and oil changes every 3,000 miles). The Commando remains a good, strong work horse with some of the idiosyncrasies of any vehicle over 31 years old. The car has started a thousand conversations with other drivers. A sweet project car which everyone notices. And it has been a lot of fun to drive. My wife will definitely miss the Jeepster because she thinks she looks so cool driving a Commando. Feel free to contact me with questions. Local inspection available. The car is located in the South West corner of Mass. We will work with the buyer regarding pick up. Buyer responsible for any and all transportation costs. Currently for sale locally so we reserve the right to end the auction early if a local sale occurs. We are putting an $1800 reserve on it. On Nov-15-12 at 05:36:02 PST, seller added the following information: I have had it in the shop for the inspection. While there I had the shock mount issue checked and was told that it is not an issue with the mount but with the tail pipe bumping against either the axle or the shock... should be an easy fix. In addition they are replacing the muffler as it has a small hole (even though it wasn't making any noise) and the e-brake is stuck and that will also be repaired prior to delivery.
