Vehicle Detail
1969 American Motor Company Ambassador SST Coupe Up for auction on eBay today is a car that may not be familiar to many of you out there.. If you are like me, it may be the first one you have looked at ever!! Other of you folks out there in eBay land may be walking AMC encyclopedias.. I will try to describe this car to the best of my ability to the inquisitive mind of the novice Ambassador admirer and to the enthusiast as well. First and foremost I want to state that this is a RUST FREE vehicle. This means there is no cancer in this car, now or ever. It does not mean that there is not surface stuff here and there in nooks and crannies. Even though it rains a lot out here in Oregon, our cars don’t usually get rusty. This is a coupe version of the Ambassador with most of the options available as far as I know. It has the highest level SST Trim, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Vinyl Top, Low Wood Grain, Cruise Control, 390 cu in V8, 4 Bbl. Carb, Automatic Transmission, and the AM/FM Stereo. All still equipped on the car. This is a survivor vehicle. The paint is original as far as I can tell. There are a few thin spots on a few of the sharp edges but it is in excellent condition overall. It shines like new and has very few scratches or blemishes. The vinyl top is in mint condition. It looks just like brand new. The wheels tires and hubcaps are all in perfect condition as well. I believe the car spent its whole life stored indoors. The interior is a Blue and White Two Tone. I have not seen this configuration in any of the research I have done on Ambassadors, so I imagine the white leather inserts were an added customization somewhere in the 43 years this car has been out in the world. The bright blue door panels and carpet I have seen on other cars. The interior is very clean and If not for a few small cracks in the dash board and steering wheel, I would call it pristine. The ignition is not a factory unit, neither is the wiper switch. Both have the look of a grandpa fix from the 70s. The radio is still the original. The car runs flawlessly. It starts with no effort warm or cold. It idles smoothly and quietly and the engine is rock steady at any RPM. It does not smoke or drip oil. The car accelerates rapidly and all the gears shift perfectly as you drive. If there is an area that could use attention on this car it would be the aesthetic of the engine compartment. It is not really dirty.. It could really just use a pretty new set of wires and the proper air cleaner. The paint on the engine is still beautiful, it just needs some love in there. This car is not just a barn find it is also a bit of a mystery. It came out of an estate where it had been off the road for years and years. I don’t know the owner and don’t have a perfectly sorted history of the car. The group that managed the sale of the estate had zero information on the car. I do know it was loved and if you see it, you will too. I hold clean and clear Oregon title to the vehicle. The car is nice, but not new. If you bid, please understand the difference and be prepared to own a vintage piece of Americana. It’s not a new Honda folks. I am setting the reserve of this auction low and fully expect this car to sell the first go around. If you have any questions about the car, don’t hesitate to write or call. If you want to talk money, I am open to all offers. I only discuss money over the phone though. Thanks for checking out my auctionJ Happy Bidding!! Justin 503-969-5127
