Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1955 Chevy wagon. I have owned this car for about 7 years now and it has always served me well. I will be sad to see it go but I am in a position where I need to move it to a new owner. It was built in California and has what others referred to as the heavy duty frame. At one point in it's life it was probably in Mexico as there is a window decal for Mexican insurance. I have personally driven this car as my summer transportation for most of these years. In a slightly warmer climate it could easily be someones primary mode of transport. I have owned a lot of hot rods/ customs and this is one of the very best running ones I have ever had the pleasure of having. I have taken this car on road trips to Bowling Green (about 160 miles round trip), Lexington (about 200 miles round trip) and many times to Louisville (about 100 miles round trip) to include attending Beatersville (where the weather outside was about 2 degrees cooler then Hell itself). The car sat on 180 the whole ride, creeping up to 190 as we sat FOREVER waiting to get in. DRIVETRAIN: This car has been converted to front disc brakes and runs a large corvette style master cylinder. It retains strong drums on the rear. Front end has dropped spindles giving a nice, lower look while eliminating the cruddy ride of cut or lowered springs. The back was done with lowering blocks, again ensuring good ride by not altering the spring itself. The car handles very well with much less roll than other 55-57 Chevys I have ridden in. This is probably due to both the California frame and the lower center mass of this car. Also, car is equipped with a hitch that allows for pulling a trailer. I have used it to pull my vintage travel trailer and it works very well. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION: The car was originally built with a powerglide and inline 6. One of the main things that sold me on this car was the level of professionalism in the quality of the enigine / transmission conversion. The 305 crate motor was installed with side engine mounts, rather then the cheaper front engine mounts. Nothing was cut or beaten on like so many other cars out there. The wiring (as seen in the pictures) is clean, mounted well and properly tied up. It runs a late style internally regulated alternator. Additionally, it has an aluminum intake with an Edelbrock electric choke carb which has worked flawlessly (including the choke) since the day I got it. The engine does not smoke or leak or make any strange noises and as stated earlier, it runs nice and cool in all types of weather. Current transmission is a TH-350 with a shift kit in it. Driving normally will result in a smooth shift but if you put the big pedal all the way to floor it will respond with a real nice bark going into second gear. Original column shifter operates the transmission and gives a stock appearance. BODY: When I brought this car home it was a combination of worn original paint (green) and some primer spots. Under the primer spots was all metal (the previous owner stated he was prepping it for new paint) I scuffed the car and shot it into its current color combo. It is not perfect but is totally presentable. The sheen on the paint is not high gloss but not even close to the satin folks are using now. I have been asked countless times if this is the original paint. Thats just what it looks like, original paint that has been lovingly cared for. I shot this paint on the car within 2 weeks of bringing it home and it still looks presentable. It gets more looks then some of the high dollar paint jobs because so many folks think it is a survivior. INTERIOR: Car has a vintage style radio but it is AM/FM with cassette. (radio works but needs new speakers) Gauges under the dash include oil, water, volts and tachometer. Interior was green, dyed black and except for some wear on drivers seat, still presents very well. Back seat folds down to increase storage area. Currently running a custom white wheel for the early 60's vibe but stock steering wheel is included. There are lap belts added for two people in front and two more in the rear. WHAT DOES IT NEED: Well, if your me, it doesn't need a thing, it's perfect as is and will take you from here to the end of the Earth without concern. However, if you want something to do it could stand a new hood bird/jet and some tailight chrome rings (most of the other logos, script, front running light chrome) has been replaced. The front bumper overriders are not from a 55' Chevy and the bumpers and door handles are showing some age, but are servicable. The flat door glass has been replaced but the curved glass has not and there is minor delamination (that has been exactly the same since I got it) The front windsheild has those cool old decals on it and I really don't want to lose them. The passenger wiper is not working but driver side is. I have the replacement part for the pass. side and will provide it to the new owner. The front floors are showing some spider webbing so I purchased replacement front pans but have yet to actually need them. The spare tire section (well known to rust out) is perfect as is the area above the front headlights (also a known rust spot), no problems! There is a rust spot on the roof at the front passenger side. It showed up about 6 months after I painted the car and has looked just like that ever since. IN CLOSING: This car has served my family well. I have let my Brother-in-law take it to car shows, loaned it to my Father when he was visiting, driven it as a daily driver, taken it everywhere and have always gotten lots of compliments and a dead on reliable ride. This year I drove it back and forth to the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville (100 mile round trip) four days in a row and all it asked for was some gas. I can say with complete confidence, whoever wins this car will be pleased with the purchase. I welcome anyone to come look, and drive this car. It is so hard to try and express how great a car this is. Not a high dollar show car, not some beater but a very nice driver you can take to cruise night, or go out for ice cream with the kids, or just drive and enjoy. You will be able to take this car anywhere and feel good about what you are driving. On Nov-04-12 at 16:38:20 PST, seller added the following information: Title lists it as a Handyman wagon but is actually a Townsman wagon, sorry for the confusion, I had a bit of a brain fart on that one. I tried to change it but was unable to revise the listing header. Up for auction is my 1955 Chevy TOWNSMAN wagon. I have owned this car for about 7 years now and it has always served me well.
