Vehicle Detail

This is a very unique 70 Chevelle that I'm listing for a customer. This is a true 75 75 788 red bucket seat Chevelle. The car still retains its' original 396 engine with the correct 290 heads, 287 intake and many other original GM components. The stampings on the front pad are TO317CTW and 10R225272 which are consistent with the Protecto Plate. The 3.31 Posi rear stamp is CCF319B2. This car was born a Tubo 400 Automatic and somewhere along the way it was converted to an M20 4 speed. This car has power steering, power brakes, with tach and gauges. From what I have been told by the previous owner this car had a frame on freshening up in 2001. The odometer in this car reads 16300 miles, if this mileage is accurate I can't say for sure but if you study a car very closely it will tell its' own story. Here is what I've learned from this car. Body: This body from what I can tell still retains all its' GM sheet metal. The quarters show no signs of patch panels and the GM tooling stamps are in the trunk gutter. The doors, hood and trunk lid are also GM pieces. The repaint itself was odd. There are several places where the original red laquer paint still exist. The edges of the hood, the underneath of the trunk lid and inside the door jambs were never repainted, the 42 year old laquer paint is still present. I would rate the paint condition as a strong 7.5, it is around 12 years old but still shows great. There are some marks/scratches here and there but nothing that jumps out at you Being that this car was made in Arlington, I searched underneath the tar barrier for a build sheet. I had no luck finding one but what I did find was the original Red Oxide primer on the firewall and floor was in incredible shape. This floor and trunk pan are rock solid in every direction you look. The car also had the dealer offered undercoating applied, in spots underneath where it has lifted over the years the Red Oxide looks great. The trunk has been spatter painted but the Red Oxide primer underneath the package tray is in mint condition All the date coded glass is intact and I believe all the upper stainless is original to the car judging by its' patina. I believe the front and rear bumpers are also original, they show some light scratching and the chrome appears to be the flash chrome they used back in the day. The emblems and the wheel well moldings appear to be repros as they show as new. The door handles and locks are original and unrestored. Interior: What has been replaced is the vinyl seat covers, headliner and carpet. Whoever restored the dash didn't do such a great job. I removed it and restored it myself taking pictures of the dash housing itself and the firewall. The condition of the wiring was great and all the gauges work as they should. These gauges have not been restored or refaced. What is interesting in the interior is I believe the hard plastics have not been redyed. The kick panels, arm rests and bases show some slight wear but are consistent with various shades of red when these cars were new. The Deluxe seat belts have all the date coded tags on them, show some wear on the buckles and look every bit the part of unrestored originals. Engine compartment: There are many original pieces still present. All the Cowl Induction components appear 42 years old, including the 2 tone check valve and rubber ribbed vaccum hose. The wiper motor looks to be untouched and the date sticker worn. The harness gutter is still intact with the TCS box attached. All the engine harness and front lamp harness is original also and in great shape. The horn relay and voltage regulator are still intact. The Harrison automatic radiator is there as well. The pulleys and brackets are all correct with the correct date coded alternator. What has been changed is the master, booster, water pump and the exhaust manifolds are not correct for this car. It probably had headers at some point and the date coded manifolds tossed in the process. The rubber hood to cowl seal is the original and not a repro. I repainted what I could of the engine while in the car myself to give the compartment a cleaner look for the owner. I also installed a Gardner Exhaust system replacing a Flowmaster set up. Overall this car presents itself nicely and is a great driver. The front end is tight and there is not 1 rattle or squeak in this car. From all this car presents, I believe this car spent a lot of time sitting idle in a very good enviroment. I'm including a Photobucket link to more pictures of the car showing the pad stamp, the dash removed and more pictures than I can post in the listing.
