Vehicle Detail
My wife drives her TR6 to work. After work one day she was approached by a lady who said she had one of these cars in her garage. Her husband had started restoring it but passed away. She was moving and was now willing to part with it. Did she know anyone intrested in it. She stated that he had spent a ton of money on the car and provided me all of the receipts for the work done. Its over $5000 worth of receipts.. (Ill include them) Some of the usual Triumph headaches were addressed. The rear diff mount was fixed/carbs rebuilt/new dash..the list goes on and on..including a new stainless steel exhaust. Not included in the receipts was the new tan interior with wool carpets as well as a VERY NICE re paint in its original and rare (only 650 TR6s were painted in this color) emerald green. The car looks new..When I saw it, it hadnt had the windshied put back in yet. The frame is about as good as your going to find in one of these cars..barely any surface rust..Trailing arms are perfect. It has new rear origial shocks/u joints etc..Inside and ouside rockers are rust free.. No rust in the trunk. I got the car home and started the process of getting it running and stopping. It hadnt moved since it was repainted..so there are no scratches etc..The front brakes were seized, so I Installed a rebuilt set of calipers/new pads and front flexible brake lines as well as the PWDA valve. New rubber surrounds the windshield and new rubber where it mounts to the car was also installed. The rear trunk seal was installed but needs glueing. I took a picture of the head as it looks like it had never been run. It had that bare metal look of when it comes back from the shop..The gaskets are new so Im sure that was done..It started right up, slounds like a triumph..has excellent oil pressure..but the carbs ran rich..It runs great with the chokes on..backfires slightly when theyre of. Is this car a show quality car? No. But if it were much nicer looking, you wouldnt drive it. For instance, the chrome lug nuts that hold the wheel on have some rust from the wrench..there are some minor pitting on the bumpers..the little stuff that they ding a show car for. You would be proud to take this car to any car show and I cant tell you how many people have stopped by my house to talk about it..Its that nice.Naturally whenever you have a mass produced car, you want to have one that came with any of the offered upgrades. Triumph offered Air conditioning and a luggage rack. This comes with the COMPLETE..Air conditioning system, and factory luggage rack. I was told the AC worked and the compressor turns freely and looks new. You can re install or sell it. All the wires/hoses etc are still there making it an easier job.. I had intended to keep the car and was going to put in an overdrive transmission. I purchased a tested overdrive unit with the wiring harness for $1300. The buyer will be given first option to purchase it. If they dont want it and your looking for a good unit, just let me know. I go up to Charlotte regulary if that helps with the shipping. I also toyed with the idea of the Toyota 5spd conversion, so I also have the transmission from a celica needed. I would sell that for $200 if you decided to go that route. Neither goes with the purchase of the car. I included in some of the pics what the car looks like with wire wheels..Wire wheels against the green makes the car look so much better. Im keeping the chrome set for my wife but have a nice set of 5 painted wire wheels with the hubs/tubes etc that Id sell for $400. What the car still needs: Red TR6 Decals for the wheels, new winshield wiper blades..the old rubber disintegrated..New sun visors..Whe I first drove the car, the spedo was frozen and broke. I purchased a used one of e bay so the mileage reads 20k or so. IT needs The two exterior rubber piecs that go on the drivers and passenger exterior windows. Piddly stuff really. The tan convertable top is in excellent condition..no tears, plastic is still clear..I have a cover for the convertable.. I just put the new front brakes on and they will need to be bled..They pump up fine but there is air in the system The clutch and gears all work as they should. The headlights wipers and all but the gas guage (it works intermittily) work. Half of the tailights work. I broke the emergency flasher knob on the dash but have another tested switch for it. There is the smallest of exaust leak where the pipes connect under the car..Im sure its just a tighten the clamp type of thing. I dont have a garge down here and as I started to address some of these issues I was met by a rattlesnake, so that put an end to that. A weekend of putting the car up on jacks and tracing the couple of wires will sort the thing out. To me, the issue needing attention immediately is the little piece of metal that stops the door openeing too far. The passenger doorstop is broken. The first time someone just opens that door and doesnt stop it, it will put a crease in the new paint. I have made that mistake on a prior TR6. This is a really nice TR6 with all the fun options and the ability to upgrade to an overdrive..Please please dont bid on the car unless you intend to pay for it. Its located between Charleston SC and Savanaha Ga for easy I 95 shipping. The reason Im selling it is Ive had a few of these cars and now want a Jensen Interceptor. If you have one in ANY condition and want to trade/partial etc, or your just looking to sell one, please let me know. Happy bidding. On Oct-25-12 at 19:47:11 PDT, seller added the following information: In some of the pics, it looks like there are scratches in the paint..Its just a reflection of stuff on the lawn next to the car. Thats how shiney the new paint is. The front bumper also looks like it has rust on it. It doesnt..again a reflection of the grass. I didnt close the hood or put the top up all the way in some of the pics. They both close as they should. The car has great gaps..It also doesnt have a radio or antenna as it was removed for the painting. I also have the set of kidney pads that cover the tunnel and hide the wiring but didnt put them on as you need access for the AC wiring. I can send pics of the inside of the trunk if you need them. It had no rust at all and was also repainted so it looks great. The chrome rims that go on the wheels arent in the pics but I have them and will put on prior to shipping.
