Up for auction is a very nice 1979 Mercedes 450 SL roadster that was recently aqquired as a trade in from a local new car dealer here in West Virginia. This SL has ice cold AC, a newer black soft top that is in very good condition, the matching pagoda style hardtop, and a nicely re done tan leatherette interior. She carries a little over 160K miles but the engine is strong and the transmission shifts very smoothly as it should. The red paint is shiny and the body is straight but there are a couple of hazy spots, notably on the top and the right rear quarter (barely noticeable from 10 ft away or in the pics). The body and frame are basically rust free and I would rate very good condition. The carpet in the trunk is in nice shape, and the full size spare is in place. The original radio has been replaced by a nice after market Kenwood CD stereo that compliments the car.
This is a really nice driver, not a show car but it could be with some time patience and a little TLC. It does have an exhaust leak that goes away after warmup and occasionly the right rear brake hangs up a little. The check strap on the drivers door is broken but still semi functional. I would not be afraid to drive this car anywhere but it would probably be advisable to consider hauling her if you are going to go a great distance from West Virginia.
