This 2001 Ford Taurus SES recently traded into us on the purchase of a new car. A very kind Grandfather purchased his Granddaughter a small SUV so she could pursue her dreams of becoming a vet. Unfortunately, the previous owner drove this car while it was overheating and has caused damage. We took it into our shop and they performed the VA State Safety Inspection, which it passed. However, it is running rough and has obvious issues. Our shop has said that the first thing to do is the repair the damaged heds and then go from there to diagnose or inspect for any further damage. They also commented that the engine could be replaced with a lower mileage used engine for about $1,600 and would be their recommendation.Exterior:The exterior of this Taurus is a burgundy red. It looks very nice. The rounded body shape looks good from the side, front and rear. You have a side body moulding that is the same color as the vehicle. With matching side view mirrors and bumpers, the consistency adds great appeal.The front of this Taurus comes sleekly down to a point. There is some minor road rash on the front. The elongated wraparound headlights look very nice as well.The rear of the taurus shows the same color consistency. There is a mini built in spoiler for added appeal. I did notice some scuffs/scratching back here. There are factory alloy wheels on the tires 215/60/R16 tires that passed the state safety inspection in August. Overall, you will find some wear on the exterior of this Taurus consistent with year and miles. You will find a few other small imperfections on the exterior of this SES sedan, however nothing to indicate abuse, only normal driving wear.Interior:The interior of this Taurus is a cloth tan with matching carpets and dash. The premium sport cloth tends to hold up well under wear. The front seat is also a bench allowing for an extra person to sit here. So this Sedan actually seats 6 people!There are power door locks (with a keyless entry fob), power windows, and power mirrors all controlled from the driver side door. The steering wheel has the cruise control buttons directly on it for convenience while driving.The center dash houses the in dash cd player and climate control. We have not tested many of the amenities due to the mechanical conditon and our unwillingness to push the engine beyond its limits.The rear bench seats 3 more adults. As a full sized sedan there is plenty of room back here. The cargo trunk area is customizable and large since the rear seats can fold down separately to make more space. Overall you will find the interior to show some minor wear, again consistent with age and mileage. One odd thing I did notice is that there are burn marks on the passenger seat. However, this car does not smell like smoke at all.Under the Hood:As stated before, this Taurus needs some more diagnostics regarding the mechanics. Our shop suggested that it will most likely need a new engine. However, with a inexpensive used motor and some mechanical know how, this could be an awesome car at an awesome deal for someone. While this sedan does turn on and drive, it will not go very far. Please plan on either shipping or trailoring this vehicle home.
