STORAGE and HANDLING FEES June 30, 1969 SEE #4 BELOW SPECULATING SHELBY VALUES "Upon his death, it is reasonable to assume cars with the Shelby Name will DOUBLE IN VALUE!" 8 Cars Positioned to Increase In Value By Bobby.Ellis An Unorthodox Investment That You Can Enjoy Today I was watching Barrett Jackson Classic Car Auction on the Speed channel today and I came to the conclusion that by investing the right set of transportation a person could finance their entire retirement fund. Today, if you had own a Shelby “Super Snake” you would have been $5 million richer, because this how much automotive collector Ron Pratt had paid to purchase this very rare automobile yesterday. If you are any kind of automotive enthusiast, you know that the prices of an original or a well restored classic car from the nineteen fifties, sixties, and seventies have literally gone through the roofs. Most of the cars from this era on average are selling for low six figures. You may be thinking it’s too late to get in of this frenzy and it just as well may be. But, I think I have a list of cars that are poised to gain significant value as the years past. Here’s my list: The Chrysler/Plymouth Prowler – it was the first modern hot rod that was built straight from the manufacturer. These cars did not go over well with the public, primary due to it lack of horsepower. As the years past these cars have increased in value. Just five years ago you could have bought a Prowler in the twenty thousand dollar range. Today, the price of a Prowler is averaging $38-$39 thousand. That more than it cost when it was new. Chrysler 2005 Crossfire SRT-6 –this car is literally a steal right now. The sticker price for this car was $47k for the coupe and 51k for the convertible. The current price is approximately $29k for the coupe and $33k for the convertible. This car is guaranteed to be a classic according to Car and Driver magazine chief editor Csaba Csere. It was first and only Chrysler vehicle build with 100% Mercedes AMG parts, including AMG famous hand built motor. In addition, this is the only supercharged and V-6 in Chrysler SRT line up. These cars are particularly exclusive due to them only being produced in 2005. A total of 2,944 of these rare copies were produced (928 convertibles and 2016 coupes). Ford Mustang R series – The Mustang Cobra R series are the rarest and most valued Mustang of the past 15 years. In 1993 Ford built 107 Mustang Cobra R, then another 250 R’s in 1995 and finally 300 R’s in 1999. These cars will only gain value as years past. I can expect to see these on the Barrett-Jackson block in 20 years selling for $100k or more. The key to any classic car value is consumer demand, exclusivity, and availability of the vehicle. Shelby Cars – Vehicles containing the name Shelby in it, will earn you a fortune. As noted above the latest Shelby sold for $5 million. This just goes to show you how valuable the Shelby brand is. There are three Shelby’s that you can buy right now, that will earn you a significant return of your investment in the years to come. The Shelby Series 1 currently sells for $105k, but I predict in the next 15 years it will be worth over a half million dollars. The 2006-2007 Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT will be extremely valuable in the next 30 years if they limit the production number (which may not happen due to Ford ongoing financial troubles). Carroll Shelby is now 84 years of old. Upon his death, it’s reasonable to assume that the cars with the Shelby name on them will double in value. BMW Z8 – This car continues to be one of the most exclusive BMW’s in the world. When new it sold for $135k and is currently selling for $105k after being on the market for six years. Just for comparison sake, a Mercedes SL600 sold for $130k in 2001 and is now selling for $35k. See the difference. As time passes, the Z8 price trend will reverse itself and start to increase. When the price will turn around is unknown, but you may want to keep it on your short list. General Motors F-cars – I predict the 2002 Pontiac Trans AM WS6 Daytona Pace and the 20th Chevy Camaro SS will become collector items. There were only 43 2002 Trans Am Pace Cars and 3,789 Chevrolet Camaro Anniversary editions produced. Although these cars are not currently in high demand, they will be as collectors look to value. 1996 Grand Sport Corvette or Corvette GS –This Corvette is quite rare. Of the 1,000 units produced, only 190 of them were convertibles. The price of the GS is currently around $48k. One method that can be used to if a car going to be a collector items is by comparing it to the value of its current model. For example, you can buy a new 2007 Corvette for $45k or an eleven year old car for $48k. The old car has already depreciated, versus the new car un-depreciated value. That mean, the public values the older cars. As demand increases, so will the price. As you can see, there are seven cars that can be had right now at bargain basement prices. If this was a stock, it would be like buying into Microsoft in 1985 or Wal-Mart when it first went public. As with any investment, diversification is the key strategy. Therefore, one single item should never make up your entire portfolio. Dare to Compare! One of the Best Shelby's Anywhere! If you are looking for a BLUE CHIP investment look no further.
