Vehicle Detail
Great fun driving this little Spitfire.....Set up as a time, speed, distance rally car. Tried to make it look like a racer from the '60's that passed "Herbie the Love Bug" in the movie....ha ha The engine was professionally built with new .030 overbore and flat top 9:1 pistons, a mild race cam by TSI (Ted Schumacher). It has a double row timing chain, Payen gaskets, new bearings and seals, a Pacesetter header, twin SU HS2 carbs (for torque) with velocity stacks and filters, factory electronic ignition, electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator. Fresh standard 4 speed transmission bought from one of the editors at Hemmings Motor News. Standard differential with a minor leak at the driveshaft seal. 4 new tires for road or gravel rallies, worn Kumho Victoracer and Hoosier slicks for SCCA Autocross, 7 rare 5 inch wide factory wheels, 4 or more 4.5 inch wheels Winning car in F Street Prepared SCCA Solo and Rally for River Cities Region SCCA, Completed 502 miles in the RiverRun Rally in Ohio, Competed in the Eric Jones Memorial Rally, The Ohio Forest Rally, and others with the Central Ohio Rally Club CORC. It has NO LOGBOOK and is NOT currently registered for SCCA road racing or Vintage Racing. This is a street legal antique car. The milage on the car was at 44K when I rebuilt the engine. The speedometer and odometer were replaced for a more accurate unit but the new odometer reads over 70K....The rebuild has approximately 3000 miles on the engine. With the higher compression ratio and advanced timing, it likes premium fuel with a little octane boost. The car has an Autopower Roll Bar installed with 4 point racing harnesses in both seats. My wife was my navigator so hers got extra padding. The floors in the car are solid and have sound and heat shield in the footwells under the carpets. It has the aftermarket fiberglass hump over the tranny for easy access. You can replace the tranny by removing the hump seat, and rolling the assembly into the passenger side floor. Standard brakes with no power/vaccuum assist. Compared to modern cars, it takes a manly push to haul her down from speed, but it's never failed to stop in time. Has a high performance 1 inch front sway bar to improve cornering. The body on the car is no "cream puff" It has some rust forming on the rear fender lips, but with the factory Sienna Brown color, the rust doesn't show as much. Chips and touch ups all over, but it still shines. There's also some water spots faded into the paint that will buff out if you want. I never painted the car since it was going to do gravel rallies. The bumpers were switched to the old style chrome that look a lot better than the rubber beasts required that year. The radio and glove box were eliminated to save weight. All the lights work, and the headlights are modern halogens. The top was new when I bought the car, the plastic windows are clear and flexible and the canvas has got only one half inch cut over the passenger side seat. Lots of spare parts and information go with the car, rear leaf spring, original hubcaps and trim rings, seat belts, fuel pump, and more You can call me at 304-638-9five61 during the work day, or 304-453-411two in the evenings for more info. $500 non refundable PayPal deposit due within 3 days of the end of the auction with payment in full due in cash when the car is picked up. Buyer is responsible for arranging transport of the vehicle. It could be driven home for a reasonable distance if you have an adventurous soul and like driving the scenic route. The low gearing makes it hard to drive for extended periods at modern interstate speeds. Good luck bidding. You don't want to miss this opportunity to have some fun.....Thanks, Dennis I found some more things that go with the car....mechanical fuel pump, original seat belts, rear bumper braces, the original rubber covered rear bumper, extra rear axle and brake parts, wiring diagram, books for parts and racing set up, original timing chain and chainwheels, spare transmission, and an original boot that covers the top when it's down. The heater, defrost, and fan are all working....used it today. On Oct-07-12 at 10:36:27 PDT, seller added the following information: I couldn't find the old spare transmission today, but I did find the old pistons, bearings and seals. The engine was rebuilt in late 2007 and the old speedometer only shows 35,000 miles. I have the title in hand.
