Vehicle Detail

**FYI: Previous high bidder had an unavoidable financial situation and could not complete the deal. I did have this car listed 2 weeks ago on eBay.** Up for auction (reluctantly) is my 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV. According to Marco Fazio of Alfa Romeo “the chassis number AR 3020623 originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce USA (115.01), manufactured on the 12th July 1972 and sent to Alfa Romeo USA, Englewood Cliffs. The body colour is “faggio” (AR 516), with natural leather tex interiors.” This must have been a gorgeous car when new. When I bought this car, it had been stored in a garage since 1989. I flushed the fuel system, changed the fuel filters, and replaced the plugs and was able to get it running. I also replaced the universal joints as they were severely worn. I actually bought this car to gradually fix up into something I could drive at an autocross or track day, but I am literally out of room so this one must go. What I had in mind was gradually going through the brakes and suspension as time permitted to get it roadworthy and safe, and welding in patch panels to repair the rust / bondo areas. The new owner could be into this GTV very cheaply if he/she is capable of doing much of the work. Please note: Do not expect to be able to drive this car home. I have driven it up and down the street at low speeds but the front end has a ‘clunk’ and there is a substantial vibration somewhere in the driveline or wheel bearings. I want to be very clear to the winning bidder that this is a project car requiring a complete restoration, and is far from being a safe ‘driver’ in its current state. I have tried to write the following description as unflatteringly as possible so the winning bidder is happy with the vehicle, and please send me any questions you have BEFORE you bid! BODY:The car was originally the Faggio color which can be seen where the white paint has chipped away around the windows and jambs. The window areas look very solid and I can find only one bubbled area near the driver’s side. Rust repair has been crudely done behind the front and rear wheels, on both rockers, and on a rear portion of the driver’s side fender. There looks to be a lot of bondo in the front fascia, and I am sure there is plenty of bondo in the rest of the body that was done prior to the white repaint. There is a dent in the trunk lid that could be fixed. The body has dings and scrapes from sitting in the garage for decades. The door gaps are pretty bad – could be adjustment or poor weatherstrip fit. Someone installed an aftermarket sunroof years ago. The floors will need new pans at all four corners to be nice, and I would install new frame rails as the ones on the car have been weakened and damaged by jacking. I tried to show these areas in the pictures. INTERIOR: The interior is mostly there but tired (missing rear view mirror and radio). The dash is in rough shape and someone has cut a large hole below the radio opening (?). Door panels were recovered in tan vinyl. You would have to redo the entire interior. ENGINE: This is the 2L engine with the Spica fuel injection system.  I installed a new set of NGK plugs. It smokes a little but seems to run and idle relatively well. The engine usually fires up quickly, but sometimes has trouble restarting when hot (it has always started after letting it sit for a while). TRANSMISSION: This is the 5-speed transmission. Works in all gears. Pops out of reverse unless I hold the lever down – it seems as though the console is misaligned and pushes the lever out of gear – not 100% sure if it’s a real mechanical issue. CHASSIS: There is a clunk in the front end that is obvious when the brakes are applied. Assume the suspension and brakes need to be fully serviced. ELECTRICAL: This might be the worst area of the car, and is the reason I planned to use the GTV for track days only. Previous owner relocated the battery cables to the trunk but there is no mounting location for the battery itself (Optima battery shown in pictures not included). Most electrical items on the car are non-functional, including the headlights, turn signals, heater fan, instrument cluster, etc. Of course these are all easily fixable with the electrical schematic (included). The GTV has a clear Michigan title in my name. TERMS OF SALE: Winning bidder to send $500 non-refundable deposit via Paypal or US Postal Service money order within 72 hours of auction’s end. Balance of payment must be made in cash or US Postal Service money orders within 7 days of auction’s end, no exceptions. Car is sold as-is, where-is, and must be picked up at my residence in White Lake, MI. There are no warranties expressed or implied. I will help with loading but the winning bidder must arrange all transportation. Good luck! Pictures below.
